Rumor killer regarding why Carmelo Hayes lost the United States title to Sami Zayn
As seen during the March 27th 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, Sami Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes to capture the WWE United States title. Zayn will now defend his championship against Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42.
After Hayes dropped the title, rumors spread that he would be taking time off due to marrying Kelani Jordan. However, that is not the case. Professional photos of them that circulated online were from an engagement shoot, not a wedding. In one Instagram story, Carmelo wrote “7 months til I Do.”
Despite internet speculation, Carmelo being added to the U.S. title match at WrestleMania has not been confirmed. It was noted by BodySlam.net that Hayes’ immediate plans remain unclear, but he is not expected to take time off as WrestleMania approaches.
