Rob Van Dam responds to claims of being a “hypocrite” for criticizing Jon Moxley’s “spike” bump from AEW Dynamite

As seen during the March 19th 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley defeated Cope (Adam Copeland) in a street fight (hardcore match) to retain his AEW world title. While speaking on his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam criticized Moxley taking a bump onto Cope’s “spike” bat covered in nails by saying it was “not wrestling” to him.

Fans on Twitter/X have been sharing a video clip of RVD using a similar bat (“Janice”) in TNA Wrestling with one person tagging him in the following message…

“So @TherealRVD says the Jon Moxley spike spot was not wrestling to him. Meanwhile back in TNA in the year 2010, he’s using it as a weapon against Abyss, little hypocritical don’t you think Rob?”

Here was RVD’s response…

“Are you saying I loved this, it was my idea, or just that I did it? Someone who wasn’t Wrestling wrote this and I always said it was stupid. OK, what do you have now? Do you think Moxley did what he was told or it was his idea and he loved it? When fans remind me how stupid they are, it makes me want to be a heel.”

“Watch any interview I’ve done since 2012 where I’ve talked about Abyss and Janice. It was ridiculous and I say so every time. I went over on my obligated dates and Janice killed me off for the rest of the year.
It wasn’t my idea. It wasn’t my expression of good Wrestling. It wasn’t the inmates running the prison.”

RVD also said the following…

“Some fans on here are another level of ignorant.

1-concussions are a part of my past, not my present or my future. No matter how much you don’t know.

2- i’ve always said the abyss spot when he murdered me with Janice was stupid. I’ve always said back in Ecw, the garbage matches took the place of Wrestling because they didn’t have Wrestling in them.

3-do you think a writer gave Moxley that spot and he thought it was stupid? I don’t.

I think YOU idiots are stupid, especially fans calling me a hypocrite when I’m as consistent as it comes.

I didn’t have Barbed wire matches. I never bladed in Ecw. Y’all are ridiculous for not being able to tell the difference.”
