Results of the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre “Three Stages of Hell” match from WWE SmackDown

As seen during the January 9th 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes defended the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in a “Three Stages of Hell” match.

The first stage was a traditional wrestling match. Drew hit Cody with a low blow while the referee was dealing with the exposed turnbuckle and then pinned him with the Claymore.

The second stage was Falls Count Anywhere. Drew powerbombed Cody through a table on the outside. They fought in the crowd, where Cody bit Drew’s head while using someone’s phone to take a selfie. They then brawled backstage and made their way out by the arena entranceway, where Drew was placed on a table and Cody jumped off the top of the balcony. The fight continued back by the ring, where Cody put McIntyre through the announce desk with a Cross Rhodes and picked up the win to tie things up.

The third fall was a Steel Cage match. McIntyre quickly tried to escape the cage. Cody attempted to climb up the cage, but McIntyre caught him and delivered a superplex. Cody made a comeback and hit a Cross Rhodes, but McIntyre kicked out. McIntyre then followed up with a cutter but couldn’t secure the win. After Cody’s eyes were raked, he was sent into the exposed turnbuckle, and McIntyre delivered a Claymore, but Cody managed to kick out.

After the two men fought on top of the cage, Cody hit a super Cody Cutter, but McIntyre kicked out again. McIntyre regained the advantage and tried to escape through the door, but he was attacked by the returning Jacob Fatu. However, Fatu also attacked Cody, and while this was happening, McIntyre escaped the cage and won the title.
