Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk for the world heavyweight title took place at the WWE SummerSlam Saturday 2025 PLE. Here are the highlights…

The two began with a feeling-out process in the early moments. Punk targeted Gunther’s arm, but his momentum was halted by one of Gunther’s signature chops. Punk fought back with chops of his own, but Gunther maintained the upper hand. Gunther countered Punk’s GTS attempt, while Punk managed to avoid Gunther’s sleeper hold. Gunther applied a Sharpshooter to Punk, but Punk reversed it into a Sharpshooter of his own.

Punk, bleeding from the chest, began to build momentum against Gunther. However, Gunther caught him on the top rope and slammed him to the mat. Gunther then came off the top rope with a splash, but Punk kicked out. After countering the GTS, Gunther delivered two powerbombs to Punk, but Punk kicked out once again.

The fight spilled to the outside. As Gunther gloated on the announce desk, Punk knocked him off. At this point, Gunther was busted open.

Back in the ring, Punk delivered the big elbow drop. However, Gunther countered the GTS with a sleeper hold. Punk managed to escape and hit two GTS finishers to win the title.

After the match, Seth Rollins came out on crutches. However, he suddenly dropped them and ran to the ring to attack Punk. Rollins struck Punk multiple times with the briefcase, then cashed in Money in the Bank and won the title with a Curb Stomp.
