Report: Santos Escobar could be out of action for several months due to a torn tricep injury
According to Fightful.com, WWE star Santos Escobar is scheduled to undergo surgery for a torn tricep on Thursday after competing while injured in the AAA Rey de Reyes final this past weekend. Fightful reports that the injury originally occurred during an NXT house show tour around Royal Rumble weekend in January while Escobar was working with Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. The injury was initially believed to be something other than a tricep tear, but it has since been confirmed as a torn tricep.
Escobar still competed in the AAA Rey de Reyes final despite the injury, which reportedly worsened during the match. He took part in the tournament final against El Grande Americano Original, El Grande Americano II, and La Parka. During the match, Dr. Wagner Jr. interfered and cost Escobar the bout, continuing what had been building as an ongoing feud between the two.
With surgery now scheduled, that program is expected to be shelved. There is currently no timetable for Escobar’s return. Tricep surgeries typically require several months of recovery before a performer can return to in-ring competition. WWE has not commented on the injury or the surgery.
