Report: Powerhouse Hobbs expected to leave AEW for WWE (includes Collision spoiler)

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com stated that there are those within WWE who are very high on Powerhouse Hobbs. In an update on the story, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com reported that Hobbs’ contract with AEW expires on January 15th. It was added that WWE sources believe he is headed there.

Fightful Select noted the following…

“It was noted that AEW made Hobbs a ‘huge’ offer to remain with the company, and that he is leaving on good terms. AEW and Hobbs have been negotiating for the last number of months, and the offer we heard was substantial, but Hobbs wanted to test the waters.”

What is expected to be Hobbs’ final AEW match took place on Wednesday night in a trios title bout that was taped for the January 17th 2025 edition of Collision. “Hangman” Adam Page and JetSpeed ended up defeating The Opps to win the belts.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the following about Hobbs seemingly heading to WWE…

“I don’t want to put a lid on his potential. I mean, in WWE, at the end of the day, where he’s going to go, a lot of it’s going to depend his talking ability, and we really haven’t seen a lot of that, the ability to talk long term… Most of the time, when guys are in one place for a long, long time, it’s better to change their fresh coat of paint and all that. It’s usually better.”
