Report on why Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay took place at Forbidden Door instead of AEW All In

As seen during the 2024 AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door PPV event, Swerve Strickland defeated Will Ospreay to retain his AEW world title. In regards to why the match took place at Forbidden Door and not All In, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com noted the following…

“Fightful Select has learned that the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door main event came about because Will Ospreay wanted to eliminate the talking point of Swerve being a placeholder for him until All In. He wanted to lead by example that anyone should be good losing to the world champion, as well.”

Ospreay was said to have pitched the idea of putting over Swerve at Forbidden Door. Ospreay reportedly wanted to set an example that for AEW to succeed, it had to be a team effort. Some in the promotion claimed that a “point was being proven” as a result.

It was added that Swerve vs. Ospreay was never scheduled for All In and both had different opponents lined up for the event.
