Report on why Rey Mysterio isn’t performing in the Smackdown world cup tournament

It was initially reported that Rey Mysterio was going to be part of the WWE Smackdown world cup tournament but Mustafa Ali was announced instead. In regards to why Mysterio wasn’t included in the tournament, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that Mysterio is dealing with either a foot or ankle injury. Meltzer wrote the following in regards to Mysterio…

“He was in Indianapolis backstage with a walking boot on. He’s not expected to be out more than a few weeks but wasn’t going to be able to do the tournament.”

It was noted by Fightful.com that Mysterio was originally supposed to cut a promo on the show. While he replaced Mysterio, Ali is not expected to be joining the Smackdown brand.
