Possible spoiler regarding the WWE Title match at WrestleMania 42
Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes in a WWE title match has been confirmed for this Friday’s edition of SmackDown. The winner will defend against Elimination Chamber winner Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.
According to PWInsider.com, the current expectation is that a title change could take place on SmackDown. One WWE source noted that plans can always change but emphasized that the direction is not a reflection of McIntyre’s performance. Instead, the company is said to be focused on delivering Cody vs. Orton this year. Orton’s victory inside the WWE Elimination Chamber was reportedly the first step in that direction, as it created a surprise heading into WrestleMania and gave fans something beyond the expected build.
At this time, there is no clear word on where that would leave McIntyre. A triple threat match remains a possibility, or he could be paired with Jacob Fatu. While considered a long shot, another option would be to establish an angle leading to McIntyre vs. Nick Aldis, who has yet to make his official WWE in-ring debut as SmackDown General Manager.
