News regarding John Cena being booked as the guest host for WWE WrestleMania 42

This week, it was announced that John Cena will be the host of WWE WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that while the news just came out, the actual decision was made more than one month ago. According to Meltzer, WWE booking Cena for WrestleMania was in response to disappointing ticket sales.

WrestleTix reported that as of April 1st, WrestleMania Saturday had 38,381 tickets distributed while WrestleMania Sunday had 40,003 tickets distributed. Meltzer stated the following about the latest numbers…

“That puts the show 18.8 percent behind last year on the same number of days before the show. The 31.6 percent sale two weeks ago cut that deficit to 13.3 percent, but buys this week as compared to the prior year the same number of days out, even with a 25 percent off sale this week and the announcement of Cena on the shows, fell back down to 18.8 percent year-to-year decline.”
