Mark Henry was considered to end The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania 22
While speaking to Inside The Ropes, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry was asked whether he was ever considered to end The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania 22. Here was Henry’s response…
“Yes. And that was them. Vince [McMahon] and Taker. They thought that Taker needed sympathy. I was like, ‘Not with me.’ I was like, ‘Everybody’s gonna hate me, man.’ I was like, ‘Y’all trying to set me up.’ I thought that they were trying to set me up. That’s how ludicrous that sounded to me. I was like, ‘No, no, no. You’re gonna make every wrestler in the world mad at me.’ And look what happened.
What happened when Taker got beat at WrestleMania [by Brock Lesnar? How y’all feel like? And still to this day, there are people that are mad at the fact that Taker got beat. They thought that streak should have went to the grave with him.
And I could see that. You know how you can just feel when something’s wrong? I’m like, ‘Ah, man, this don’t seem right.’ And I was like, ‘No, man. Don’t do that to me, please.’ And they were like, ‘Do you realize how over you’ll be?’ I was like, ‘No, I won’t. I might be over with the office, but I’m not gonna be over with the fans. They’re gonna hate me.’
I was the only one that whooped his ass at WrestleMania. Go back and look at the match. I beat him from pillar to post, and he won. All the pictures are me choking him and dropping something on him and catching him and throwing him. And it was like I dominated that match because they wanted him to be put in a situation where it looked like he could be beat. Because Undertaker, at that point, he had beat so many people and he had got to the point where everybody just expected him to win.
Just to say that I was a part of a process that helped humanize the Undertaker—I can go to my grave and be happy with that.”
