John Cena says his wife provided ideas and helped with writing promos
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, John Cena commented on his wife Shay Shariatzadeh being around for his WWE retirement tour…
“I think this is the thing I’m most grateful for this year — is that she has been on every show with me since the Summer of Cena. She’s basically done a full loop. She has probably seen a hundred shows at this point.
She’s backstage with me — not just hanging out in catering — we share the same room. And I don’t come out of my little room. We talk, we solve all the world’s problems in there. She wrote the lazy-boy joke for Randy [Orton]’s promo. She writes promos, she gives ideas.
She gives a perspective that’s really valuable. She’s not a superfan, but she’s not ignorant either. She’s right in that sweet spot where she can give honest, grounded feedback. She’s seen us laying out matches and then she sits ringside — and I’m the loudest talker in the biz — so she can hear it all come together.
She has a seat and an understanding of what I do now that goes way beyond surface-level.
So from here on out, if she wants to stay home for Vegas and I go to WrestleMania and say we did six appearances, I hit three corporate boxes, and I had a four-hour meet and greet — she knows exactly what all that means. She’s been on media days for press. She’s been on red carpets. She’s been at shoots. She’s been through night work. She’s been on commercials.”
