Jim Ross feels that Vince McMahon was jealous of him: “He didn’t want to give me any credit for helping build the Attitude Era”
During his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was asked about former WWE announcer Todd Grisham’s claim that Vince McMahon “hated Jim Ross for whatever reason.” Here was JR’s response…
“I never understood Vince’s intense animosity. I think he was jealous, really. He was never going to be the play-by-play guy that I was. But he didn’t want to give me any credit for helping build the Attitude Era to what it was.
I’m not the only person responsible for that, for God’s sake. I’m not trying to say that. All I’m saying is I signed all those guys that made him millions of dollars and facilitated the company going public. Those were my guys. That was my roster, and it happened to click. I wish I could take all the credit like any other egomaniac in wrestling, but I can’t. It was a team effort.
Jerry Brisco was involved deeply, among others. We never would have signed Brock Lesnar if it hadn’t been for Jerry Brisco. Think about it. I mean God-damn!
I never had animosity toward Vince, and I’m proud to say that. As much grief as he gave me, I could always look at my bank account and get happy. I never screwed him around. I never no-showed. I never phoned anything in. I was doing two or three jobs. I worked my ass off.
I never understood it, but sometimes that’s just the way it is. I had the choice to carry that animosity and angst with me or cut it loose and move on. The latter is what I’ve done and will continue to do.”
