Drew McIntyre issues public statement to fans following his WWE title victory over Cody Rhodes

As seen during the January 9th 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes defended the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in a “Three Stages of Hell” match. McIntyre ended up winning the title after interference from Jacob Fatu.

On Saturday, WWE held a live event in Glasgow, Scotland. McIntyre, who wrestled at the event, issued a statement to the fans in attendance…

“I assume a lot of you have been coming to the WWE Hydro shows for a few years now, yeah? You’ve probably heard me repeatedly make you a promise that I’m going to win the WWE Championship and I’m going to bring it back to Scotland. Well, the first time I won the WWE Championship, unfortunately, the world had to shut down on us, didn’t it? I won it twice, and I’m proud of what we did during that period. We gave people an escape during scary times, but I swore I would get the title back, and there have been years and years of disappointment. I’ve been screwed over, but I kept believing in myself because I’ve got this weird condition that makes me mental. I’m Scottish.

Last night, you couldn’t have written it any better. I won the WWE Championship. For the very first time, I was able to walk out in front of live fans as the number one wrestler on planet Earth, in Glasgow, where I could finally fulfill my promise.”
