Details regarding what went wrong with Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton’s segment from WWE Smackdown

As seen during the April 4th 2025 edition of WWE Smackdown, there was an in-ring promo battle between women’s champion Tiffany Statton and Charlotte Flair. According to Twitter/X account @WrestleVotes, the women said “very little of what was in the rundown for them” and they allegedly went off script quite a bit.”

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that the promo was scripted to come off like a shoot and while there were reports of them deviating early in the segment, virtually the entire promo went as planned. Meltzer obtained a quote from someone within WWE about what led to the segment falling apart…

“Charlotte has been trying to rattle Tiffany. Standard stuff. [John] Cena does it. Randy [Orton] does it. Young talent coming up, you put a little heat on them as a test to get them to either sink or swim. Well, Charlotte has f***ed this whole program by not adjusting.”

Another person explained what went wrong…

“Once Charlotte let the fans get to her, that’s where it all fell apart. She gave up and said the line, `Tiffany, you can have the last word,’ because she was done with the fans at that point. The three minutes prior to that was scripted. The 25-year-old drinker was scripted. The 4-3 Mania record line was scripted. Tiff stumbled over a word and that’s when Charlotte took a personal shot at Tiffany’s voice. That was a shoot. 16 more days/being called nepo baby was scripted. Charlotte screaming Nepo Queen was not.”

Meltzer added that there was heat on both of them when the segment was over but more on Charlotte.
