CM Punk: “Everyone always says ‘don’t be political’ until it’s their politics and then they’re rooting for it”

Ahead of the 2026 WWE Elimination Chamber PLE, world heavyweight champion CM Punk did an interview with Rock 955 and The Morning Mosh Pit. Punk was asked the following question…

“Say someone is afraid to speak up—whether that’s at work, in their home life, just in today’s weird environment where you don’t know what to say. Where do you draw from that gives you the grace to sort of balance your ego with how articulate you are?”

Here was Punk’s response…

“Oh God, I don’t know how to answer that.

Especially in the climate we’re in now where everyone’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be political.’ And I really feel like everything’s political. You make your choices—especially with your dollar—and it’s hard to escape everything.

My deal is, I try to do no harm. But ultimately, if you try to censor yourself, if you try to bite your tongue, you’re going to wind up pissing somebody off anyway. You’re always going to piss somebody off.

I mean, right now, all the hockey players dealing with the gold medal stuff—I think a lot of them are being pretty dumb. But I’m not getting invited to the White House. I wouldn’t get invited to the White House, so it’s not a decision I have to make.

A lot of them are saying, ‘Oh, don’t be political,’ and then they’re showing up at the White House. Well, guess what? You are being political.

It’s unfortunate. But great for some people—some people love it.

Everyone always says ‘don’t be political’ until it’s their politics, and then they’re rooting for it.

And we’re all guilty of that.”
