Backstage reaction to the Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay match at AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door

As seen at the 2023 AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door PPV, Will Ospreay defeated Kenny Omega to win the IWGP United States title. In regards to the execution of the match, Fightful Select noted that it was “meticulously planned” like their match at Wrestle Kingdom. Ospreay stated that he wanted a second match with Omega to be “a lot different” from the one at Wrestle Kingdom.

Fightful stated the following about the backstage reaction to the match…

“Many watching the match voiced concern over spots in the match, and the condition the competitors would be in after a series of moves that several deemed risky. However, we were told that both competitors emerged relatively unscathed. In fact, Kenny Omega told several people he was fine after the match ended.”

After returning backstage, Omega and Ospreay reportedly received applause and a standing ovation along with “heavy praise” from their peers in the locker room.

After the match, Omega tweeted “I lost and Will was the better man tonight. The US belt is in good hands. Keep Don away from it.”
