Backstage news regarding Mercedes Mone’s match with Stephanie Vaquer at AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door 2024
As seen during the AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 PPV event, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defeated NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title for title match. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com noted the following regarding the backstage reaction to the match…
“There was a lot of praise internally for the Mercedes Mone vs. Stephanie Vaquer bout within AEW, specifically for Vaquer getting over so strongly with the live crowd in NYC for her work. We are told that Mone went into the bout with the express goal of ‘making’ Vaquer and that even with Vaquer getting into town late as she didn’t arrive until the afternoon of the PPV (most were in the night before), the feeling was they hit the goal.”
Britt Baker, who is now medically cleared, is set to feud with Mercedes. While speaking to media after Forbidden Door, Mercedes said the following about Britt…
“Well I know a certain b*tch wanted to come out and decided to steal my spotlight tonight, right? Well, that’s not going to happen because I’m going to party all night long and show her that I am Mercedes Mone for a reason, and there’s a price to pay when you interrupt me. Okay? Tonight was about me and my celebration, who the hell does Britt Baker think that she is? She wants to show up to my show, I understand that. She is the first-ever woman to sign here in AEW, but Tony [Khan], am I correct that I am the biggest free agent that you’ve ever signed here? [Tony agreed] So this Wednesday on Dynamite, to any woman who wants to come out here and steal my spotlight, it’s on.” (quote courtesy of WrestlingInc.com)
