Backstage news regarding Becky Lynch’s return to WWE at Summerslam and future plans
As previously noted, Becky Lynch was reportedly going to return around the time of the 2022 draft. Due to Sasha Banks being pulled from Summerslam, WWE brought Becky back early and booked her to win the Smackdown women’s title against Bianca Belair in a short match.
It appears that Becky’s cheap shot to Bianca had a storyline purpose. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, sources have confirmed that Becky is officially a heel in WWE. Johnson added that Becky is going to be positioned as the top heel on Smackdown and will be feuding with Bianca.
In regards to Becky’s appearance at Summerslam, she was reportedly kept hidden during the day to avoid her return being leaked online and the Carmella appearance was done to swerve fans.
Johnson also noted that it was Vince McMahon’s call to have everything play out the way that it did at Summerslam. It was said that Bianca’s loss wasn’t meant to “bury” her but rather to make Becky’s return as big as possible. That is also why Sasha vs. Bianca was advertised until the last minute. Johnson wrote the following…
“It should be noted that the quick nature of the match (27 seconds) was seen by a number of fans as taking the wind out of the sails of Bianca Belair, but we are told that even though some in the company expressed that concern beforehand, the idea was that the moment was about Lynch per Vince McMahon’s vision for the PPV.”
