Andrade speaks out about his legal situation following his departure from WWE
During the six-year anniversary edition of AEW Dynamite, Andrade made his return to AEW after being released from WWE. However, he has not appeared on AEW television since coming back to the company as WWE reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to AEW.
While speaking to DeporTV, Andrade addressed the legal situation. Here is the translation from Spanish to English…
“I returned a year and a half ago, almost two years, to WWE. I had been in a company called AEW, and at that time I was already a bit happy there, but… I was married. I don’t know if it’s super known — I was married, my wife’s name is… well, my wife’s name is Charlotte Flair, and she works in WWE. So the idea was to go back to WWE to be with her. And a lot of things happened afterward. I wasn’t feeling too comfortable. We got divorced. But in the end I wasn’t too comfortable with various things.
I got a warning that ended up on the internet. I got a warning because there are a lot of medicines or supplements that are allowed in Mexico that you can’t take over there. You just can’t. And there are certain restrictions — you need a prescription. Supplements that contain things we can’t take as athletes because of doping rules and stuff like that. So I got a warning. And I was also getting a bit fed up.
So… I talked to WWE, we came to an agreement for me to leave the company. We ended things in the best way at that time. Later, I went back to AEW, the other company. I’m very grateful to WWE, I really am. And since the lawyer I had was — or was — also my wife’s lawyer… You can’t use the same lawyer. And in the contract that the lawyer signed, I don’t know if he didn’t notice or what, but there was a 12-month non-compete clause. And they enforced that clause, so I had to hire a different lawyer. We’re stuck right now; we’re in that phase. It won’t be a full year — we’re negotiating. I’ve already completed three months now. It’s worldwide. My lawyers are already talking to WWE’s lawyers. They’re reaching an agreement. I don’t know the exact date, but it could be a month, a week…”
