Andrade confirms that he got into a physical altercation with Sammy Guevara at an AEW Dynamite event in 2022
In October of 2022, Andrade El Idolo revealed that he had a backstage confrontation with Sammy Guevara over Andrade allegedly hitting Guevara too hard during a match. Andrade wrote on Twitter/X, “I spoke to him and asked if he had an issue with me, but he said he did not and that’s all there was to it.”
Guevara issued a response to what Andrade said..
“YOU didnt say shit to me you liar but heres some truth you ungrateful prick You would be jobless if it wasn’t for your dad in law [Ric Flair]. Are you really mad at me or mad at yourself for failing to get over for a SECOND time. Just go back to Wwe like we all know you want to do & f*ck off.”
The two men ended up being involved in a physical altercation that led to Andrade being sent home from Dynamite. While speaking to El Ring, Andrade commented on the incident. Here is what he said in a rough translation from Spanish to English…
“So I sat down in catering — the place where the food is — and all the wrestlers were there. I sat down, and at another table was Mark Henry.
Mark Henry called out to me: ‘Andrade, can you come over here?’
And I said, ‘Yes, sir.’
He started talking to me and asked: ‘Is it real? Or is it publicity? Is it true that you two are going to fight?’
And I said, ‘No, sir. It’s real.’
And he told me: ‘Don’t pay attention to that stuff. I was young once too. You’re more mature. Don’t pay attention to it. Let it go. Don’t do something stupid.’
The talk he gave me really did calm me down a bit. It kind of settled me, and I said, ‘Okay, well, that’s it,’ because I was going in there with all the guys, with the Mexicans, and I had that anger from the day before. So much so that I said, ‘However this goes, it goes.’
At that moment, I finished talking with him, I went downstairs from catering — we were on the second floor of that arena — and we were going to record a backstage segment. We were waiting for the cameras to get ready, and the person I had the problem with [Guevara] walked by. I was at the edge, he walked over there, I saw him… and boom — my head exploded.
So I went. We had an argument. What happened happened; I’m not going to say exactly what happened. There were some punches thrown. I’m not going to say more because I don’t want it to sound like I’m the bad guy or that I’m bragging. No, no, no. It happened, and I’m not going to give details. Yes, we did get into a physical fight, but there was nobody around, nobody saw it. The only ones who saw anything were three people: one of the guys from Private Party, José the assistant, and Rush.
They were the only three people who saw it, and they saw what happened. They can tell you; I’m not going to tell you because I don’t want him to think too much of himself. He already says a lot of things about me as it is, right?
Anyway, it happened. Suddenly the guy was on the floor, security grabbed me, and I said, ‘I’m not going to do anything else.’ They told me, ‘Where’s that calm you talked about?’ ‘I’m calm, I’m calm,’ I said.
The lawyer — at that time the company lawyer — arrived quickly, like five minutes later, and everyone gathered around: ‘What happened?’ You can imagine. They asked me, ‘Why didn’t you tell us? We were waiting for you. We already had everything ready. You should have let us know.’ And I said, ‘I didn’t know this was going to happen right now.’
The company thought I had been waiting for him, because we were kind of hidden away… not hidden, but sitting behind some speakers or something. We were sitting there, and they thought I was waiting for him. A lot of stories started coming out.”
