AJ Styles update following injury segment on the October 4th 2024 edition of WWE Smackdown
As seen during the October 4th 2024 edition of WWE Smackdown, the returning AJ Styles had a match against Carmelo Hayes. However, the match was stopped by the referee as the announcers commented on how Styles potentially sprained his ankle. On Smackdown Lowdown, Styles was seen leaving the building on crutches.
According to Fightful.com, Styles is not hurt and everything was part of an injury angle. It was also noted that Chad Barbash was the writer internally listed for Styles’ promo segment.
Via Twitter/X, Jackie Reymond wrote the following about the “injury” to Styles…
“Coming out of Smackdown last night, I can confirm that AJ Styles suffered a ‘mid foot ligament sprain’ also known as a Lisfranc injury. AJ will have an MRI later this week to determine the severity of the injury.”

It appears that the current storyline with Styles will be teasing his final run in wrestling before retiring. Styles recently spoke to The Metro and ruled out a return to TNA…
“As much as I love the guys and girls that are there and respect TNA as much as I do, I think this is my last stop, in WWE. I don’t want to do it anymore. And it’s not because – of course I want to wrestle. But my body, it’s like, ‘Please stop. Please stop.’ I think this would be a good place to end my career, in the WWE.”
