AEW President Tony Khan reveals scrapped plans to have Dynamite’s debut take place at Madison Square Garden

AEW President Tony Khan revealed that the very first episode of AEW Dynamite was originally planned to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The revelation came during AEW’s recent tapings at the Hammerstein Ballroom, where the December 24th Dynamite on 34th Street episode was taped. While discussing the idea of a pay-per-view event potentially taking place in New York, Khan responded to chants of “MSG” by explaining that the promotion had once intended to launch Dynamite at the venue but was ultimately unable to make it happen.

Khan explained the situation…

“That’s an interesting idea. You know, for a long time, I’ll be honest. They didn’t want me there, you know that? Because the first episode of Dynamite was originally going to be there. And they called me and offered me the date. They said, ‘Would you like to do the first episode of Dynamite here?’ The people who called me don’t work there anymore; it was over six years ago. I said, ‘Yeah, I really would. It would be great.’

And they called me a couple of months later, and they said, ‘We don’t want you anymore. We don’t want you to do the first Dynamite here.’ Because it would really upset somebody.” (quotes courtesy of F4WOnline.com)
