What is being said about potential backup plans for Crown Jewel and WrestleMania 43
The U.S. State Department currently advises travelers to “Reconsider travel” to Saudi Arabia due to risks including potential Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting American interests, armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans, and local laws regarding social media activity. Despite this, WWE is reportedly moving forward with plans for November’s Crown Jewel and WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com stated the following in regards to the situation…
“They are not going to even hint at a pullout decision until they make it. Obviously they want to do both shows there because it’s a ton of money. So in both cases they will wait until the last possible time to announce a pull-out and they will do everything to avoid it. I mean, if it’s super dangerous to go, they aren’t going, but they still won’t say so until the latest time possible.”
Meltzer noted that Crown Jewel is reportedly worth approximately $60 million, while WrestleMania is expected to generate well over $100 million. Although the Crown Jewel could potentially be canceled and rescheduled, doing so would affect revenue expected in the fourth quarter. The situation could also change significantly before WrestleMania takes place next year.
Regarding speculation that Las Vegas could serve as a backup location for WrestleMania 43, Meltzer said sources in the city indicated that the necessary April dates are unavailable. Those sources also reportedly said Las Vegas is unable to offer the level of financial incentives it has provided for previous events.
