Nick Aldis addresses the pressure of his match with Gunther: “I have to deliver at SummerSlam”

Aldis: “Sure. But I take confidence in the fact that they looked at everything, every possibility, and decided this was where the money was. I suppose I was a little perplexed at first at how casual everyone seemed to be.”

Van Vliet: “In what way?”

Aldis: “Hunter [Triple H], Ed Koskey, Michael [Hayes]. I was waiting for the sit-down, ‘Are you sure you can do this? Are you ready?’ It never came.”

Van Vliet: “I saw a comment online. I’m curious what your take is on it. ‘How do we make the guy who’s the SmackDown general manager who wears suits every single week on SmackDown? How do we make him seem like a viable opponent for the guy who retired Goldberg, and John Cena, and AJ Styles?’”

Aldis: “It’s a fair question. It’s a fair point. Well, I think we need to document my career. I believe that is in the works. I think it’s a bit of a crash course for the WWE universe. Is this is who this guy was before he came here? I think that’s necessary. Fortunately, there’s quite a good relationship with TNA and I believe with the NWA as well. So hopefully we can put together something compelling and substantial that really helps sort of fill that gap for people who don’t know, and the rest is up to me.”

Van Vliet: “You hit him with a line last week, where the guy who retired John Cena is going to get beat by his boss. I’m paraphrasing here. But where does it go from here if Gunther’s boss beats him in a match?”

Aldis: “I would say that that puts Gunther’s boss in a pretty high caliber of competition. I have to just concentrate on what’s in front of me. I have to deliver at SummerSlam. As far as I’m concerned, I am treating this as one match. I have no expectations. I had none coming in. I have none coming out. I just have to deliver, and trust my boss that whatever comes next is the right thing to do.”
