Update regarding Gangrel’s AEW Dynamite appearance being canceled
As previously noted, former WWE star Gangrel noted on his podcast that he lost an opportunity to appear at AEW Dynamite in Milwaukee due to Edge’s tribute to The Brood at Smackdown and Summerslam.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, AEW confirmed the story and Gangrel was said to have still been paid even though the appearance was canceled. The belief is that Gangrel would have likely been involved in Christian’s storyline with Kenny Omega.
There were other changes made to Dynamite as well. There were originally plans for 2point0 to be on the show but Matt Lee’s wife had given birth and AEW President Tony Khan gave him time off.
There was also a match that had been planned but two of the wrestlers involved tested positive for Covid-19. Neither had symptoms and were fully vaccinated.
Meltzer wrote the following in regards to what Khan said about the show…
“He [Khan] said he wanted to showcase the biggest names because he knew the show would have one of the biggest audiences, but he also realized with the changes that this show wasn’t going to produce any ****½ matches like he would have liked, but did praise Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy and the Lucha Brothers vs. Varsity Blonds as solid 10:00 television matches.”
