Triple H explains WWE’s booking decision to have John Cena tap out to Gunther in his final match
As seen during Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th 2025, John Cena lost to Gunther in his final match by tapping out. Afterwards, fans in the arena chanted “you f*cked up” at WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
While speaking on the SNME post-show, Triple H responded to the chants by stating, “I’m actually mildly disappointed. I thought it would be so much louder.” Triple H then explained the booking decision…
“There are time-honored traditions in our business. There are a way that you handle your business. John has said the right thing his entire career, that it is about leaving this place better than you found it. I think that people don’t… There’s no way for people to understand that in the moment.
But you do what is right for the business. You do what is right for this industry. John has done that his entire career, and I’m going to do that my entire career. I will do what I believe is right for this business. It just is what it is. I understand that’s tough for people to understand, but it’s part of what we do. That is the role we have chosen.”
Triple H says he’s gonna do what he believes is best for business as fans boo him.
