Claim made that top WWE names such as Roman Reigns and The Undertaker want Alberto Del Rio back
Former WWE star Alberto Del Rio lost a match to El Mesias in AAA on July 25th and per the stipulation, he must “leave” the promotion. This has led to speculation about Del Rio’s future in the wrestling business.
In a video published to the Lucha Libre Online YouTube channel, former WWE commentator Hugo Savinovich addressed the situation. Here is what Savinovich said, translated to English from Spanish…
“Important people—Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre—want Alberto back. This isn’t about one star saying ‘keep him out.’ It’s about top stars saying, ‘He deserves to return. He’s proven it.’ And not just for a few months—we’re talking four years now.
Rey Mysterio himself showed it when he said on the mic, ‘I’ll bring him out now.’ Rey could have done anything else, but in his heart he wanted Alberto back.

Legally, Alberto has been clean for four years in the U.S.—reports, background checks, behavior, everything. His conduct has been excellent. I’m not just saying this as his friend or pastor. The truth set him free, and he’s lived right for four years.
Alberto Del Rio is a WWE product, part of a dynasty—Dos Caras, his uncle Mil Máscaras, and more. He left everything behind to build his own name. He’s ready.
And when someone like Roman Reigns supports you, that says everything. The Samoan culture—family, tradition, loyalty—they see Alberto as someone worth standing with.
Roman Reigns, Rey Mysterio, Drew McIntyre, even Undertaker—they want him back. Undertaker is now a big creative influence. Imagine his creative mind working with Alberto’s character. That’s powerful.
Even Konnan, Savio Vega, top bookers—they all see it. Yes, WWE is the #1 company in the world. That comes with stockholders and business pressure. But with streaming, Netflix, expansion in Mexico—Alberto can bring stability and peace to the product.
Why? Because lucha libre is supposed to unite people, not divide them. At Triplemanía, you had a kind of class war—the expensive seats vs. the fans in the upper decks. That’s not what lucha is about. Alberto, with his microphone skills and presence, can bridge that gap. He can be the ambassador of peace, making everyone feel part of the same family again.
That’s why he’s important. That’s why top stars want him back. WWE needs Alberto, and Alberto needs WWE. Together, they’ll succeed.
So yes—it’s time.
It’s time to bring Alberto back.”
