Results of John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam Sunday 2025 PLE (Brock Lesnar returns)

John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the WWE title in a street fight took place at the WWE SummerSlam Sunday 2025 PLE. Here are the highlights…

Cody’s entrance included narration from his father Dusty. Cena made his classic babyface entrance. Cody received boos during the introduction and Cena was largely cheered.

After playing to the crowd, the two hugged and then began brawling. Cena used basketball player Tyrese Haliburton’s crutch as a weapon against Cody, but Cody gained control by slamming Cena onto the steel steps.

The match went back and forth, with both men trading momentum. They dueled with chairs, with Cody getting the upper hand. Cena recovered and hit his signature moves on Cody, including the Five Knuckle Shuffle. However, Cody regained the advantage with a Cody Cutter. Cena fired back with an Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere, but Cody kicked out.

The match continued to be evenly matched, with both men trading big moves. Cody delivered a piledriver to Cena, but Cena kicked out. The crowd chanted, “You can’t do that!” followed by, “Yes you can!” Cena suddenly delivered another Attitude Adjustment but was unable to make the cover.

Both men got to their feet and exchanged strikes. Cena applied the STFU, but Cody managed to escape. Outside the ring, Cena hit Cody with a microphone and then delivered a Code Red. Cena took Cody onto the announce desk and put him through another desk with an Attitude Adjustment.

Back in the ring, Cody hit the Cross Rhodes, but Cena kicked out. Cody went for a superplex, but Cena countered with a flying leg drop. Cena then took down Cody with another Attitude Adjustment, but Cody kicked out. The fight spilled into the crowd. Cena used a guardrail as a weapon, but then Cody suplexed him onto it. The two fought under the stage before Cena rose up through the elevator shaft with Cody on his shoulders. Cena then delivered an Attitude Adjustment to Cody onto the ramp.

Cody brought Cena back into the ring, but then Cena recovered and threw Cody into a table. Cody hit another Cross Rhodes, but Cena kicked out. Cody pulled off the turnbuckle rod and hit Cena twice with it as the crowd booed. Cody hesitated, and Cena applied the STFU again, using the ring rope for leverage. However, Cody reversed it, but Cena powered out. Cena tried another Attitude Adjustment, but Cody countered with two more Cross Rhodes. Cody delivered a third, but Cena still kicked out.

Cody tried to use the WWE title, but Cena countered and hit two Attitude Adjustments. Cena took Cody to the top rope and delivered an Avalanche Attitude Adjustment. Cena went for the cover, but Cody managed to kick out.

Cena went to deliver another Avalanche Attitude Adjustment through a table. However, Cody countered with a Cody Cutter through the table. Cody then gave the farewell salute and pinned Cena with one final Cross Rhodes.

Cody raised his hand as fireworks went off. Cody left the ring, and Cena received a standing ovation from the fans. Just as the show appeared to be ending, the returning Brock Lesnar came to the ring. Cena tried to fight off Lesnar but was laid out with an F5.
