Jimmy Hart reveals how Hulk Hogan saved Koko B. Ware’s job and helped Kamala get better pay
While appearing on the Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, longtime manager and WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Hart shared memories of his friendship with the late Hulk Hogan. Hart said the following…
“I was going to tell you about helping friends. Hulk had a great program for a while with Kamala. One day, we’re in a room and he goes, ‘Kamala, what’d you get on your check?’ Kamala says, ‘This is what I made.’ Hogan says, ‘Man, I gotta call Vince [McMahon]. You’ve got to get more than that.’
He calls Vince and goes, “Caesar [a nickname for Vince], let me tell you something. Kamala and I are having great matches. We’re selling out. We’ve got to get him more money than that.”
And sure enough, the next week, he says, ‘What’d you get?’ Kamala goes, ‘Oh, thank you, Hulkster.’ He got more.
Then there was the time Koko B. Ware got in a major fight with a guy named Jim Troy [former WWE executive] over in Europe. Troy was saying that hockey, or whatever he was into, was tougher than wrestling. Somehow or another, he was knocking wrestling. Koko—oh my God—beat the you-know-what out of him. So they sent Koko home.
Koko calls Hulk. He goes, ‘Hulk, I got sent home and maybe fired because of that.’
Hulk called Vince and said, ‘Caesar, let me tell you something. He was standing up for our business. Don’t you dare let that kid go.’
And sure enough, Koko was right back a week later. So many things like that happened that you never really hear about.”
