State of Mind: High Times and High Spots

Okay, let’s break the stigma, folks. It’s 2025, and it’s time to have an open and honest conversation about something that’s been a part of the wrestling world for decades: marijuana.

I’ve been contemplating this since Travis Scott appeared on Raw.

Now, before anyone clutches their heart or has a coronary, let me be clear: I’m not advocating for irresponsible use or encouraging anyone to break the law. But the reality is, marijuana has been a part of the wrestling culture for a long time, and it’s time we acknowledge that and discuss it openly.

Back in the day, it was an open secret. Wrestlers, dealing with the grueling travel schedule, the physical toll of the business, and the pressure to perform, often turned to marijuana as a way to unwind, manage pain, and cope with the stress. It was a part of the backstage culture, whispered about but rarely discussed openly.

But times are changing. With the growing legalization of marijuana in many parts of the world, the stigma is slowly fading. Wrestlers are starting to be more open about their use, and the industry itself is becoming more accepting.

And you know what? That’s a good thing.

For one, it allows for more honest conversations about health and wellness in the wrestling industry. Instead of sweeping it under the rug, we can talk about the potential benefits and drawbacks of marijuana use, and we can provide resources and support to wrestlers who may be struggling with substance abuse.

Secondly, it opens up new creative possibilities. Imagine storylines that address the issue of marijuana use in a mature and responsible way, or characters who challenge the stereotypes associated with cannabis. It could add a new layer of depth and complexity to the wrestling world.

Of course, there are still challenges. The legality of marijuana varies from state to state, and there are still concerns about its impact on athletic performance. But the conversation is happening, and that’s a step in the right direction.

So, let’s ditch the outdated stereotypes and have an open and honest conversation about marijuana in wrestling. It’s time to acknowledge the past, embrace the present, and look towards a future where cannabis can be a part of a healthy and responsible lifestyle for wrestlers and fans alike.

And hey, maybe someday we’ll even see a “420-friendly” wrestling show. Now wouldn’t that be something? I know I wouldn’t miss as you can tell from the name of my column.
