Speculation that WWE used Kevin Owens’ contractual status as an attempt to discredit wrestling reporter

This past May during an interview with The Metro UK to promote the 2024 Backlash: France PLE, Kevin Owens noted that he had nine months left on his WWE contract. It was later reported that Owens had been approached for a new contract.

Last week, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following about the situation…

“Multiple people in wrestling have said dating back to Bash in Berlin that they believed Kevin Owens re-signed with WWE but it’s being kept quiet. But that hasn’t been directly confirmed.”

During the Voices of Wrestling podcast, Joe Lanza stated the following…

“I got tipped off last week that Kevin Owens has been signed for months, but WWE isn’t leaking that to their media they want to report that. They’re waiting it out because they want Meltzer to start opining or suggesting that AEW could get in the mix and maybe sign him. Because then they’ll leak out that Owens is signed because it makes it look like Meltzer is wrong. That’s the games they play…but I think Dave either got tipped off to the same information or he sniffed it out because he put out a report in the Observer.” (quote courtesy of Cultaholic.com)
