Breaking news: Jay Briscoe passes away at the age of 38

AEW/ROH’s Tony Khan announced the following via Twitter…

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”

Ian Riccaboni of ROH issued a statement…

“Jay was one of a kind. I traveled often with Jay and Mark. We couldn’t have been more different but that’s what made our friendship something I’ll cherish forever. He’d give you the shirt off his back, his last dime. He was so proud of his kids. Loved his family so much. Jay taught me about Alabama’s greatest hits. He taught me his daughters’ cheer routines. We’d talk about taking the 5 AM flights out of town to get home to our kids and our wives. And he’s the one guy that could get me a little tipsy downtown in Nashville. Jay believed in his character so a lot of the folks outside the locker room didn’t get to see the Jay I saw. The one that called me Ric, asked me to play the guitar for him in England so he could sing, or the millions of other stories I have. May he rest in peace. ♥️”

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com noted that “Briscoe passed away several hours ago in what we have heard was a ‘car accident’, although obviously details are very very preliminary as of this writing.” Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com also tweeted about an “auto accident” and noted that “Two people in car died in an accident at 5:30 p.m. in Laurel, Maryland [later corrected to Delaware].”

The Briscoes defeated FTR at the 2022 Final Battle PPV in December to capture the ROH tag team titles. NoDQ.com offers condolences to Pugh’s family and friends.
