Speculation that there could be a buyout of CM Punk’s AEW contract
As previously noted, CM Punk blasted Adam Page and Colt Cabana during the 2022 AEW All Out PPV’s post-show media scrum. Punk also took aim at AEW’s EVPs (The Elite) when he said “if you’re an EVP you don’t try to belittle your top babyface to try to get your niche audience that’s on the internet to hate him for some made-up bullsh*t rumor.” Punk’s comments led to a backstage altercation with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.
During his podcast on PWTorchVIP.com, Wade Keller discussed the September 21st edition of AEW Dynamite. Keller noted how Punk’s name was excluded when commentator Ian Riccaboni mentioned notable names that held the Ring of Honor title…
“I think this is noteworthy but not surprising [that] he excluded CM Punk’s name as he talked about some of the biggest names who have held the title. That’s a bit of a tell. As I talked with Jason Powell yesterday about – I am not expecting CM Punk to wrestle in AEW again. I’m not saying it’s 100 percent sure thing but everything is pointing in the direction of some sort of buyout of his contract. We’ll learn more eventually about that situation.” (quote courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)
