Video: One of the first times Ric Flair said “woo” during a 1974 promo
In this 1974 video clip from the NWA Mid-Atlantic territory, Ric Flair cut a promo and it’s believed that this was one of the first times he used his iconic “woo” catchphrase.
Natureboyricflair.com stated the following about how “woo” came to be…
In 1974, he was driving to shoot commercials at the WRAL studios. On the radio, Jerry Lee Lewis’ classic hit Great Balls of Fire came on the radio.
There’s that line, “goodness, gracious, great balls of fire! Woo!”
Flair heard the hit and decided to give it a try.
