While speaking to Denise Salcedo, Zoey Serrano (former known as Zoey Stark) discussed her release from WWE. Here is what she had to say…

“So right after, it really hit me. Like, I actually really feel bad for the gentleman that had to call me and tell me that I was released, because I broke down. I started crying. It was just one of those things that I wasn’t expecting, you know, after a year of rehab and working my ass off to come back, and then almost having to go through surgery twice during that whole rehab process, and to get that phone call, I just broke down.

And had to build myself back up. I had to take the time to find myself and who I am. And I quickly realized that I didn’t really have a life outside of wrestling.

And that broke my heart a little bit because I feel like it’s important for all of us to have a life outside of what we all love to do, right, is to wrestle. But I isolated myself.

So, it was a time for me to grow and become better outside of wrestling while I still continue to perform.”

Zoey also commented on the release happening while she was about to return from injury…

“My gut was telling me something was happening. I just remember my husband and I were driving to the store, and I just look at him, I’m like, ‘I think I’m getting released.’

Like, I just had this weird, deep, sunken feeling of it. And he was like, ‘Don’t say that. You just got cleared. There’s no way.’

But I was sending in ideas and everything like that, and I was just getting weird responses to the point where I was like, ‘Something isn’t sitting right.’

So, yeah, I kind of saw it coming, but I didn’t want to believe that it was happening.”

As seen during the May 19th 2025 edition of WWE RAW, Zoey Stark suffered a knee injury and was removed from her Money in the Bank qualifying match. Zoey had surgery for a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus.

In a video published to Twitter/X, Zoey provided an update on her recovery…

“What’s up, guys? Just wanted to hop on here and give everyone a quick update. From the last video, one of the reasons why I was having a hard time was because I was told that either I would have to get a scope done, which is where they go in and clean out my knee and any scar tissue, or two, get a manipulation under anesthesia. One of the reasons was that I didn’t have a full range of motion, and that would have pushed my recovery back. I was so upset and having a really hard time with it. But now we are back on track. That did not have to happen, thank God!”

“Now, I’m running, I’m jumping, and I have a full range of motion. Things are going great, honestly. I’m happy. I’m blessed. I really, really can’t wait to get back into the ring and get back to you guys. So, that’s all, Stark Out!” (quotes courtesy of 411Mania.com)

Following the match, speculation about Zoey’s future in wrestling was fueled by an AI-generated video of “Zoey” claiming that she was retiring.

In a video published to Twitter/X, Zoey set the record straight about her future…

“That’s pretty funny actually. This AI video, whoever made it, great job. You did a fantastic job because a lot of people fell for it, including my own family. It’s not true, I’m not retiring. Not any time soon. In fact, I’m here at the UFC Performance Institute to do rehab on my knee, and working my a** off three to four times a day of physical therapy.”

“Look, I’m gonna share my journey with you guys. You know, the good, the bad, the ugly, a road to recovery, and what it is. So, stay with me. I love all you Stark marks.” (quotes courtesy WrestlingNews.co)

In a post via Twitter/X, Zoey commented on the situation…

“Wow the love and support means more to me than you’ll ever know! What hurts more than my knee is knowing I wont be able to perform for all of you for a while. I LOVE what I do and I’m blessed to do this. As the saying goes, the comeback is greater than the setback. Love you guys.”

At this time, there’s no word regarding how long Zoey will be out of action. Trish Status gave support to Zoey by writing the following message via Instagram…

“Setbacks suck but comebacks rule. Get better soon cause you got more ass kicking to do.”

During an appearance on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast, Zoey Stark commented on being drafted to WWE RAW from NXT…

“What you saw was a genuine reaction. We didn’t know. We had no idea. So being able to sit there and actually seeing my name pop up on the screen, that’s something I’ve been working towards for 11 years, my whole wrestling career, 11 years. So finally being able to see that and start my RAW journey was very emotional for me.”

Zoey also said the following about what she has learned from working with Trish Stratus…

“To show confidence and not letting anyone get in your way. After every match or after every promo, she’s sitting there. She’s helping me. She’s critiquing me telling me when to slow down. In every little aspect. she’s really been a big mentor so far.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)

Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark were originally scheduled to face Natalya and Sonya Deville on the August 19th 2022 edition of WWE Smackdown in Montreal, Canada. Lyons and Stark were replaced by Toxic Attraction members Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin. Jayne and Dolin ended up picking up the victory to advance in the tournament to crown new women’s tag team champions.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following about why Lyons and Stark were pulled from the show…

“Stark suffered a concussion in her match Tuesday [NXT Heatwave] with Mandy Rose and wasn’t cleared. Lyons wouldn’t have been allowed to go as they didn’t realize she wasn’t vaccinated and thus couldn’t get into Canada.”
