“Man, there’s a lot of stinky people. I mean, this is more so for the fans and not the locker room. If you’re coming to a meet and greet, wash your balls and wear deodorant. That’s super important. And then if you do that, you might get a nice hug from me. But if you’re stanky and you didn’t wash your balls, I’m not going to hug you.”

TNA Wrestling has signed Shotzi Blackheart, as first reported by Busted Open on SiriusXM. A California native, Blackheart made her pro wrestling debut in 2014 and formerly was the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Ember Moon). She appeared at the TNA live events in Dothan, Alabama, in mid-October.

Working with Ronda: “I really like working with Ronda. Like, she was always so cool. She would like invite me to her house to come train with her. And she was always down, like, to just take the most brutal bumps, especially like, after our, like, pay-per-view match, she was taking some crazy bumps for me. And she would go and look and find all of my craziest moves. And she would be like, I want to take this. Let me take this. So, yeah, she was always so down. You know, people don’t give her enough credit. And when she’s focused, she’s laser-focused on making something look really awesome.”

If Ronda was too “stiff” in the ring: “No, like all of her strikes and stuff, I didn’t feel at all. She just made them look really good. Like her Judo throws are pretty gnarly to take. Those are legit. But other than that, yeah, none of her stuff really landed crazy, like I didn’t feel at absolutely wrecked after wrestling her.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)

WWE Smackdown

Shotzi defeated Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Sonya Deville, Lacey Evans and Xia Li in a Six-Pack Challenge on Smackdown to become the challenger against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series: War Games.

Is Shotzi the Right Survivor Series Opponent for Ronda?

Shotzi has a cool entrance with the TCB tank, so that will score some points with fans at Survivor Series, but that’s about where it ends.

Shotzi may be the perfect opponent for Ronda to obliterate, but is Shotzi the right opponent for Ronda to put “assess in seats” for a major PLE? This feels much more like a Friday night Smackdown opener than a Women’s Main Event caliber match at a major Premium Live Event. Casual fans most likely won’t even know who she is, regular fans don’t really care. Nobody thinks she even remotely has a chance against Ronda. If Shotzi had a storyline with Ronda or even Shayna, leading up to Survivor Series, I think having Shotzi as an opponent would make more sense.

Having a six-pack challenge 15 days before Survivor Series to decide an opponent just seems unprepared. As far as I know, Ronda doesn’t have any scheduling conflicts or injuries that would make this a last minute decision, which would be the only explainable reason for the procrastination. Without any build-up, this match is really just a space filler for the PLE and Shotzi an opponent for Ronda to dominate.

Shotzi is green and I’m not just talking about her hair. Shotzi having a botchless match should be worked on first before being added as a challenger for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at a major PLE. Her in ring work has come under fire earlier this year by fans and Shotzi deleted her Twitter over it. In a title match at a major PLE, one would expect a more seasoned and viable opponent.

Other Options to be Ronda’s Survivor Series Opponent

From the other participants in that Six-Pack Challenge match, there were much better options to be Ronda’s Survivor Series opponent.

As much as I like my fellow Jersey native Liv Morgan, I think we are all tired of Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey and know that we need to move on. Liv’s storyline has moved on and with the Bray Wyatt speculation, and it doesn’t seem like Liv will be in the title picture any time soon.

Sonya Deville: A former mixed martial fighter herself, she would’ve made a great opponent for Ronda. If anybody in the Smackdown women’s division would be able to go toe to toe with Ronda, besides Shayna Baszler, it would be Sonya. After a hard fought battle, Sonya could’ve “let Ronda beat her” and joined Ronda in making a female faction of former MMA fighters.

Raquel Rodriguez: Arguably, the biggest, toughest woman in either of the main roster’s women’s division, she could have been a real test for Ronda. Raquel as Ronda’s opponent would have created a lot more buzz and interest for a major PLE. Raquel being a face, Ronda tapping her out, would have helped add a notch in the fan—resistant heel run WWE has been pushing with Ronda.

Lacey Evans: A former Marine, with extensive training and a fearful “Woman’s Right” punch, Lacey would have made a much more viable and interesting opponent for Ronda. WWE had built up Lacey so much with her weekly vignettes for her comeback, and since, just let her fade away. It’s time they started booking her more solidly.

Conclusion

My only hope is that WWE comes to it senses, and writes an “injury” for Shotzi from her upcoming Friday Night Smackdown match against Shayna Baszler and substitutes one of the opponents I mentioned above.

As of the time of this writing, Shotzi Blackheart has deleted her Twitter account due to excessive bullying from fans. If you can call them fans…

Anonymity is perfectly fine in the modern internet era — especially when so much of your personal information is at risk online. I write behind a moniker/pen name to maintain such anonymity. I’ve written under a few pen names, actually. If this was my career it would be a different story, but writing columns is just a hobby for me.

However, when you use the protection of anonymity to bully others, it sets a terrible precedence for others to follow. Unfortunately, too many fans take to this sentiment and bash talent, or make negative comments towards both major promotions.

Too often these come from Twitter accounts created for the sole purpose of bashing another promotion and their talent. You know who these twitter accounts are. It may seem easy to waive off immature and childish troll accounts, but they have lasting consequences.

Words hurt. And it begs the question. Have we learned nothing from Hana Kimura’s death?

Hana Kimura R.I.P.

Hana Kimura was not bullied by other wrestling fans. She was tormented by fans of a reality television show she was partaking in that led to her eventual suicide. As a response, Japan has passed an anti-bullying law where online insults can land you in prison for up to a year with a fine of 300,000 Yen ($2,200) — something I wish the U.S. would do.

This is progress, but what saddens me is that this hasn’t translated to American fans. Wrestling bullies in the fanbase are just as bad as other pop culture fanbases that mock and ridicule other celebrities. Still, hurtful words by so-called wrestling fans can have an impact on a wide range of talent. I’ve even seen insults hurled at referee Aubrey Edwards  — a damn referee. Seriously?

The point is that when these insults are hurled so effortlessly, and without caution, they can stick easier than one may think. The awful comments originally made to Hana Kimura aren’t at all much different from some of the crap I’ve seen from others who insult pro wrestlers.

We’ve seen the mental health struggles of many pro wrestlers; tragically, including Daffney, who took her own life in 2021.

Even if her loss wasn’t due to online bullying, it drives home the point that these are human beings with real everyday struggles, just like you and me.

Mental Health Matters

We’ve seen the focus on mental health in the industry for some time now. In 2021, Trish Stratus and Lilian Garcia helped launch Tag Me In, which is an initiative to raise mental health across the industry. Some of your favorites suffer from various forms of mental health struggles, too.

Brock Lesnar has social anxiety. Sasha Banks has suffered from depression. Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss, and Big E have all had bouts with mental health struggles.

On the AEW side, we know Jon Moxley had a very personal battle with alcoholism, and Eddie Kingston opened up in a recent Players Tribune article about his mental health battles. “Hangman” Adam Page, The Blade, and even Sting have all had levels of mental health conflicts in their past.

Professional wrestling is hard. Why are people continuing to place talents in both major promotions on some pedestal on which they can insult them openly? They have enough to worry about aside from unsupportive “fans” that seek to bring them down to their level through hurtful words.

Is it That Hard to be Positive?

Yes, yes. Shotzi criticized Jericho’s fall off a cage at last year’s Blood and Guts into a noticeable crash pad filled with boxes. Karma is a bitch, right?

WRONG.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Jericho shouldn’t have been criticized for wanting to take a SAFE bump from a top a steel cage, and Shotzi shouldn’t have been criticized for a few botches during her Money in the Bank match.

Guess what? Everyone botches. It’s a part of pro wrestling. There is a way to make light of botches and sort of laugh with the botch and not at the talent. Even so, it’s not something to call out publicly either way. Very few get to do that, (like Botchamania), but even with Maffew, it’s been long established that the series runs in good faith, and not to outright insult talent.

What needs to happen is a lot of fans just need to actually respect the business and stop being terrible people. This includes larger Twitter troll accounts whose clear objective is to add to the wrestling tribalism among fans and “pick sides”.

There’s a difference in being JUST pro-WWE or pro-AEW, and being pro-WWE/anti-AEW, and pro-AEW/anti-WWE.

It’s stupid. Your favorite wrestlers will think very low of you if you partake in any of this. And if you happen to follow one of these accounts; unfollow, unlike, and call it out. Why waste time on negativity when pro wrestling is here for our entertainment?

The bottom line is that Hana Kimura’s death was preventable. Online bullies pushed her to the brink. Such pointless negativity from bullies affects more wrestlers than you probably think.

This needs to stop, and other writers, wrestlers, and influencers need to call this shit out on a larger level.

Jericho responded to Shotzi’s GIF by stating the following during a live stream…

There’s a couple of chicks in WWE who said some stuff and they should probably not have said that. They probably weren’t trained any better, and in 6 months they’ll probably be asking us for a job anyways and I’ll remember that, so we’ll leave it at that.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of TalkSport.com, Shotzi said the following about the spoof…

I meant no offense to Chris Jericho. I thought, honestly, the match was great. But, you know what… like, take a joke, Take a joke, bud! [laughs]. It’s just a GIF,” she stated. “Laugh at it and move on. It’s live TV. Things happen, it’s pro wrestling. Don’t take life too seriously is all I have to say.

In the interview, Shotzi also said that she found out about her main roster call-up on the same day that her and Tegan Nox debuted on Smackdown.

Shotzi and Nox are the hottest new tag team on SmackDown right now after making their debut a few weeks ago. In NXT, Shotzi Blackheart had a successful run with Ember Moon in a team while Tegan Nox has been on the verge of breaking out big in WWE for a while, but injuries have always gotten in the way.

In regards to Kross and Reed, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com wrote that WWE “wanted everyone to see what they bring to the table from a live perspective and start coming up with ideas to debut them.” WWE was reportedly “looking at Kross and Scarlett not as a couple” but it’s possible that both will be called up in time for the 2021 Draft.

As previously noted, Kross appeared without Scarlett on this week’s Main Event segment and fans criticized his entrance.

Blackheart is currently in a tag team with Ember Moon and the two will be in a #1 contender’s match for the tag team titles on next week’s WWE NXT episode.
