How Rob Van Dam feels about having a final run with WWE before retirement

While speaking to TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, Rob Van Dam commented on potentially having a final run with WWE before retirement…

“I am open to consider anything. That’s part of being open-minded—you know, I try not to shut anything out without at least considering it.

And when it comes to something like that, they’ve got my number. They can talk to me. As you know, I’ll be appearing at WWE World. We talked about that—4/20, remember?

We can definitely have that conversation. As far as a retirement tour, though—unless I change my perspective, which always happens, because you’re always looking at things from a different place in life if you keep going—the way I feel now is I don’t like the idea of labeling something as a retirement.

I don’t really want to know if I’m having my last match when I am.”

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam did an interview with GamesHub.com and here is an excerpt…

Games Hub: “You’ve wrestled all over the world, including in Japan. What would you say is currently the most underrated wrestling company right now on a global scale?”

RVD: “That’s a tough question, but maybe JCW. The clowns seem right now to be getting all the news, all the media. They’ve got Vince Russo writing their shows now and before Vince came along, I’ve been talking to some people and some of those are my friends who founded it, Violent J (Joe Bruce) from ICP. And he’s been asking if there’s anything I could do to help their company. And I noticed last year when I had Joe on my podcast, he was a Christmas guest last year and I noticed back then that their schedule is full. These guys are on tour like all the time. Like who’s doing that? Who’s got that much of a schedule where they’ve got 15 shows in December? What the hell? So they seem like they’ve been consistently keeping their schedule up like that. And then now they have writing that fans are talking about and these characters that they’ve developed there, that are going to be new to fans if the fans haven’t been watching because the characters are really original and different. So I’m gonna say right now, that’s probably the most underrated because people don’t know that they’re about to blow up. Just recently, all the comments that I’ve read are so positive. The fans are so excited about what they’re doing and you want to talk about a promoter who’s a hard worker that’s done everything himself, right from the bottom? That’s Violent J!”

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam did an interview with GamesHub.com and here is an excerpt…

Games Hub: “Is there anyone in particular that you think is underutilized in the WWE in 2025 or has been this year?”

RVD: “I mean that it seems like that’s always their job, they’re over obligated, they got so much TV time and they gotta figure out how to use everybody. Nobody really comes to mind. I feel like I prefer watching the ladies actually a lot more because they’ve really stepped it up. If you go back to like 2001, when I came into WWE, the girls weren’t the best workers and a lot of wrestling fans would say that when the girls are on, that was their break to run to the kitchen or whatever, watching it. I didn’t know that girls could even move like they were fighting because they seemed so unnatural before, but they were hot, they get really hot girls. That’s not the same thing as someone that’s a tomboy that fought with their brothers and grew up that way. So now they have so many girls that qualify that I don’t see how they’re gonna use all of them because they gotta beat each other.”

Rob Van Dam says he bonded with Bret Hart over smoking weed

During his podcast, Rob Van Dam was asked if he smoked weed with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. Here was RVD’s response…

“I enjoy hanging out with him. He’s not the type who’s telling one joke after another, but when he’s telling stories, he’s entertaining. He’s always been super cool.

That’s actually how I bonded with him at first — when I learned he liked to smoke. We had a mutual friend, a wrestling promoter in San Jose named Kirk White. Kirk became Bret’s agent and would book him at conventions. So I would see both of them a lot at cons, and whenever we had the chance, we’d smoke.

I did an episode of RVD TV with Bret in a hotel room on the road somewhere, and I think we smoked during that. Maybe not, though — I don’t think I was even smoking on camera back then. I thought it looked too ‘dirty’ for people to handle

And then there’s Lou Dog, a friend of ours from that area, who would show up with the loudest buds. Lou Dog, bro. He’d come by and you could smell his weed through an entire building. One time we were in a big gymnasium early in the day before anyone was there, and we smelled it so strong that we looked around and saw him all the way at the very top row of the bleachers, sitting alone in the corner. He’s an excellent grower.

That’s how I first bonded with Bret — just mutual trust and respect right away. At one point he even offered up his house in Hawaii, on the Big Island in Kona. He said if my ex and I were ever there while he wasn’t, we could stay at his place. And we did.

It was an awesome experience: just smoking, watching lizards, cats, birds — all the animals that would pass through his yard every day. That was my TV set for several days. Since the porch was upstairs, I could see over the trees and out into nature.

I don’t really have any funny stories, but that’s definitely one of them. He even told me, ‘My neighbor downstairs — if you need anything, let them know.’ And of course, you know what I needed: weed.

Bret’s a good guy, a good friend, and I’ve definitely got his back. I think he’s being more honest than bitter.”

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam calls out the “Internet Mark community”

At a recent Knokx Pro Wrestling event, there was an incident involving Raja Jackson, the son of MMA fighter Rampage Jackson, and independent wrestler Syko Stu. Prior to the show, there was a confrontation between the two men and during Stu’s match, Raja got into the ring and attacked him.

Shortly after the incident, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam wrote “So far, I got Raja’s back” on Twitter/X. During an interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, RVD responded to criticism that he received for his comment…

“To answer your question about responding to the internet mark community, first off, they’re not real people… The real people say things to your face. You know, right? Bullies. Look for targets that are weaker physically, in person and on the internet, the bullies can reach anybody because they can’t reach them… That’s a problem for the Internet Mark community, you’re not allowed to have an opinion that’s different from theirs… They feel obligated to send all kinds of just toxic junk.”

“They’re in love with the words, people that are on this argument, that have taken so passionately and sensitively to it, to something that I totally don’t care as much as you do about it… I don’t really think that that Raja wanted to kill him, and I don’t care if I get heat for that, by the way, if I’m wrong, I don’t mind being wrong either… He definitely went too far. He should have known that could do some serious damage. I don’t think that his intention was to actually murder him. During an interview with TMZ.com, Rob Van Dam revealed that he was in talks with WWE to potentially be one of John Cena’s final opponents…

“I wanted to be one of the return matches for John Cena on his retirement tour. I was talking to them. There was a lot of interest. Without giving away too many details, you know, we were probably going to do it… and then I broke my heels.”

When it was brought up that there’s still time to do the match, RVD stated the following…

“My mind isn’t there right now to tell you the truth. I can tell you that.”

Rob Van Dam explains his post about “having the back” of Rampage Jackson’s son following incident

At Saturday’s Knokx Pro Wrestling event, there was an incident involving Raja Jackson, the son of MMA fighter Rampage Jackson, and independent wrestler Syko Stu. Prior to the show, there was a confrontation between the two men and during Stu’s match, Raja got into the ring and attacked him.

Shortly after the incident, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam wrote “So far, I got Raja’s back” on Twitter/X. RVD discussed the situation during his podcast and here are highlights…

Clarifying his post: “I want to start out by saying best wishes to Skyo Stu Smith. Hopefully he will regain his health and do it quickly. That’s a shame. He definitely didn’t deserve what happened to him. If you’re wondering, if you’re a basic thinker, if you thought that me saying that was somehow hypocritical because my text said that I back Raja, then you are one of the basic thinkers that can’t understand how those can both be true in the same universe. I’m not picking a side. If I did, I’m not even saying it would be Raja’s.”

Raja’s mental state: “So, Raja doesn’t know sh*t about wrestling. That’s what I understand. I heard it from him saying on the stream before he gets to the event. He says, ‘You know, my boys got this wrestling event. I’m going to go and support. I don’t know sh*t about wrestling.’ And I believe him. He says he’s got concussion symptoms. His head is really f*cking with him a lot and he’s been having an upset stomach. This is something that a lot of the haters want to blow off. They don’t believe concussion symptoms are real, but they want to say, ‘I got CTE and that’s why I put that post out.’ You know, I don’t know if they’re trying to be funny, but you can’t have it both ways. He’s concussed. I don’t know the guy. He doesn’t seem like he’s the sharpest tool in the shed. I watched another video of him and his dad, and I love Rampage. I’m definitely not burying him, but it looks like a hard-love kind of relationship.”

Raja being told he could get a “receipt” after being hit with a can by Stu: “So, I’m going to assume that Stu thought that Raja knew he was going to do that. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me. And maybe Raja did know, and then Raja decided, ‘Uh, f*ck that.’ Or maybe because he got hit in the head and he was already concussed, maybe he forgot he was doing a skit. I don’t know. I don’t know. But it doesn’t make sense that a guy just went up and did that without knowing somebody, thought it was okay because he’s a pro wrestler. And that’s the story that’s out there. They end up making an agreement, shaking hands. From what I understand, Raja only accepted the apology reluctantly when they told him that he could get him back. Raja’s not a wrestler. He doesn’t know how the business works. He said he doesn’t watch it. He’s not into it. And they’re telling him ‘you can get him back.'”

What went wrong: “It was miscommunication. I think that Raja knew the whole time he was going to go in there and beat the dude’s ass. He told them that’s what he was gonna do—they told him to do that. They all agreed upon it, and then he went and did it. Did he take it too far? Yeah, he took it too far. You know, he’s definitely got anger issues, but I see the pathway of how we got there.”

Final thoughts: “He’s not a pro wrestler. He shouldn’t have been part of this at all.”

Rob Van Dam explains why he finds celebrity involvement in wrestling to be “offensive”

While speaking on his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam gave his thoughts on celebrity involvement in wrestling…

“You have to be an athlete to be able to do it. And so, like for me, it’s always offensive, because I take the perspective that in order to have a celebrity take a spot on a wrestling card, everyone else has to work around them to make it look like just anybody could do it. And I don’t like that, because not everybody could do it… It’s always insulting, though, for me, like when people feel like it’s, like it’s easy, like we’re just playing, or like just anybody can do it… I always will feel defensive about the fact that my career took an incredible amount of physicality, an amazing amount of durability to be able to take, you know, a s–tload of punishment on a nightly basis, besides having the talent to even pick up the timing and have cool moves and any of that. And so I feel like a lot of that just gets thrown out the window in order to f—ing make, make this work.”

RVD brought up an incident with rap group Insane Clown Posse from ECW…

“Before you even finish your question, it sounds like you’re talking about when ICP came and they came, me and Sabu beat the s–t out of them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Take it easy on them at all. And I broke Shaggy 2 Dope’s eardrum. He wrote about it in his book… Everyone knows that I didn’t go exceptionally hard on him, but I didn’t hold back either… They even had wrestling training, but we looked at them like they weren’t us, because they’re not… If they didn’t respect what we’re doing before, they’re going to respect it afterwards.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)

Rob Van Dam addresses CM Punk being referred to as a “hypocrite” by fans for wrestling in Saudi Arabia

Just prior to the 2025 WWE Night of Champions PLE, CM Punk publicly apologized for his “suck a blood money covered d*ck in Saudi Arabia” post from 2020. After NOC, Paul “Triple H” Levesque said that he was “incredibly proud” of Punk for apologizing to Saudi Arabia fans.

While speaking on his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam gave his thoughts on CM Punk being referred to as a “hypocrite” by fans for wrestling in Saudi Arabia…

“I don’t consider it hypocrisy unless it is done at the same time because people can grow, the perspective could change. If he said something five years ago and now he feels different about it then that’s not what a hypocrite is. We all grow, feel different.”

“If he’s signing the contract, he’s on his way, he’s gonna go get big money in Saudi Arabia and at the same time he messages, ‘I f***in’ hate people that go to Saudi Arabia, they suck and then he goes,’ that’s different because it’s the same guy at the same time showing two different faces, talking out of two different orifices at the same time – that’s what a hypocrite is.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingHeadlines.com)
