While speaking on his podcast, former AEW star Matt Hardy and co-host Jon Alba discussed Adam Copeland’s interview comments about creative freedom in AEW. Here was the exchange…

Jon Alba: “He [Copeland] talked about how he’s enjoying a lot of the creative freedom of AEW right now, and he brought up specifically how, by the end of his WWE run, he felt like everything was a little overproduced, and it wasn’t allowing him to have the ability to work the way he wanted to and do what he wanted to do at that juncture in his career.

People have really run with these comments. I’ve seen people talk about how ungrateful he was for the end, how his character hasn’t changed in AEW at all. What do you think about his comments?”

Matt Hardy: “You know, first and foremost, I was at AEW and I waved the flag. That’s what any good employee should do. So, I mean, I think that’s a big part of what Adam is doing there.

There is a lot of creative freedom in some ways with what you do at AEW. And I think in some ways there’s a little too much. Some things need to be reeled back in because there’s sometimes things get repetitive when it’s done too much, obviously.

And, you know, as we were just talking about in the very beginning with stipulations, like there needs—it needs to make sense to have these stipulations, to have these particular scenarios happen in certain matches or whatever else.

Sometimes at AEW, you know, they’re willing to let people go wild, which in some ways is good, but in some ways, too, they need to rein some stuff in.”

In a post on Twitter/X, Matt Hardy clarified the circumstances surrounding reports that his brother, Jeff Hardy, was offered induction into the WWE Hall of Fame before joining AEW. Here was what Matt had to say…

“For the record – WWE offered Jeff the HOF because his drug test returned as no drugs – But alcohol was the problem. The WWE wanted to keep Jeff from going to AEW by any means necessary, so they offered the HOF but he had to re-sign. Jeff chose to reunite with me at AEW.

After clarifying the circumstances around this HOF deal, wanna say this.. Couldn’t be more proud of Jeff & where he’s at in his life with his sobriety. He’s the best version of himself that he’s ever been right now.”

While speaking on his podcast, former WWE star Matt Hardy discussed the growth of MJF in AEW over the past several years…

“The character that I think has grown the most and has gotten the hottest organically, in the most authentic way possible, is MJF. He just stands out head and shoulders above everybody else to me when it comes to AEW—when it comes to actual character.

These other people have done stuff and they have been characters, but I just feel like there’s been a lot of inconsistencies in those things.”

“He hasn’t changed a ton as a character, but he has grown. He became the champion. He became a dominant player. Whenever he starts talking, people are sitting on the edge of their seat, and they want to hear what the f*ck he has to say.

You know what I mean? He’s a really compelling person who keeps the crowd enthralled.”

Last week, it was announced that Tessa Blanchard, Tommy Dreamer, and Sami Callihan are no longer working for TNA Wrestling. Fans and critics on Twitter/X have voiced frustration over TNA’s departures, with notable quotes capturing widespread concerns about instability and mismanagement: “TNA has been a complete clusterf*ck (more than usual) behind the scenes ever since they got their tv deal. They can’t sell tickets or keep talent,” one user remarked, while another highlighted the pattern by listing high-profile exits like “Josh Alexander, Jordynne Grace, Joe Hendry, Rascalz, Jake Something… now Steve Maclin all gone from TNA within a 2 year span.”

Amid online criticism, TNA’s Matt Hardy came to the defense of TNA President Carlos Silva in a post…

“Carlos was hired for this position to 1) dig TNA out of debt, 2) streamline company cost & expenses, 3) get the company on a bigger TV platform & 4) get to the point where TNA is becoming profitable. He’s been working tirelessly & every one of these tasks are challenging. Carlos is getting things done & succeeding on all these goals. The core group at TNA is gonna keep doing what we do – Work hard, grind away and make TNA as great as it can be.”

During an episode of his podcast, Matt Hardy discussed the TNA Wrestling’s creative shakeup in 2026 and suggested a former WWE writer to help lead the promotion’s creative team going forward…

“I would bring in—and you know the individual as well—Nick [Manfredini], who worked with myself and Bray back in WWE and was a writer there.

After thinking about it, I felt like he was really layered in the way he could do stuff. If he was working with novelty characters like myself and Bray, he knew how to treat us as special and different.

If there was something with a supernatural aspect that you were trying to get out of those two characters, he knew how to utilize them. At the same time, he was very good at utilizing characters who were just legitimate wrestlers that go out to the ring and wrestle.

I felt like he had an understanding of all the different characters and how to enhance each character to its maximum potential. Even if they were a regular, ‘I go in the ring and I’m the best wrestler in the world’ type of character, he could still enhance that character just as well.

He’s the guy I would suggest.”

As seen during WWE WrestleMania 42 Sunday, Roman Reigns defeated CM Punk to become the new world heavyweight champion. Punk has not appeared on WWE television since the night after WrestleMania.

Last week, unverified Punk speculation surfaced on social media, all alleging some form of tension between him and WWE and/or claiming that he has requested his release from the company. During his podcast, former WWE star Matt Hardy addressed the rumors…

“I think when you are a big star like CM Punk obviously is, and you have a history of some of the things CM Punk has, it’s easy for people to run wild when it comes to the rumor mill. I don’t think that is something that is ever going to go away when it comes to a guy like him because he is such a complex individual.

No doubt about it, he’s a great wrestler, an amazing talker, and an amazing character. He feels very legit, and even if you know him in real life, he really stands 10 toes on whatever it is he’s standing for. Whether he loves you or hates you, it is what it is.

With guys like that, there will always be people trying to dig deeper and saying, ‘There has to be some ulterior motive here. Things aren’t right. There has to be an ulterior motive.’ And, you know, sh*t gets made up all the time in pro wrestling. I see things about me and Jeff and other guys that I know pretty well, and I would imagine that CM Punk is not immune from that either.”

Hardy also responded to the idea that people were expecting more conflict between Punk and WWE when he returned…

“I feel like when Punk was in AEW, he knew he had a hold on Tony Khan to a degree that he could kind of get away with what he wanted. If there was something he was dead set on doing, he could flex his muscles and get away with it. I think he could sense that Tony wasn’t someone who had been running a wrestling company for decades.

When he came back to WWE, I think he knew he couldn’t get away with that same type of attitude or mentality. It is what it is. A lot of people thought he was going to stir up controversy or create conflict, and he didn’t. He was a by-the-book guy and seemed like a model company employee.

I think it’s hard to dispute that. The guy even went to Saudi Arabia, and I’m sure that wasn’t on his bucket list of things to do, if you know what I mean.”

All members of The Wyatt Sicks were among several WWE departures announced on April 24th 2026. While speaking on his podcast, Matt Hardy reflected on the group’s run with WWE…

“I felt like that was that was very much a love letter to Bray Wyatt.

I guess the fact that they ended up finding some success and winning the tag titles, so they could be deemed as a successful act at that time, that was something that was beneficial to them.

But when it was all said and done, it just really fizzled out. It’s just like the creative just didn’t know what to do with them. They didn’t know how to take them in a new direction, or a different direction, or what to do with them. I mean, that’s how it felt from the outside looking in. Obviously, I don’t know.

Those things can be tricky. I mean, I feel like if you have an act like that, you have to put a lot of time and thought into it. And maybe it’s too much time and too much thought for the people that are doing creative. Maybe they are overwhelmed, and they don’t have the time to do that, you know.”

While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Matt Hardy addressed the status of TNA Wrestling’s partnership with WWE. Hardy stated the following about why there haven’t been as many crossover appearances in recent months…

“I would say a lot of that is probably because it was WrestleMania season and everything was focused towards WrestleMania. And then WrestleMania now has, has come and it has gone— they kind of cleaned house a little bit. They called a lot of people up from NXT and they kind of reset. I would imagine the TNA/WWE/NXT relationship will probably heat back up a little bit coming forward.

And one thing I can say that I am very happy about, we signed a contract with WWE to be in the video games. WWE 2K26, and we’re going to be doing the video games coming up for the immediate future. And we’re talking about doing more merchandising stuff because, I mean, when it’s all said and done, we’re like a WWE legacy act. Of course, I don’t think anybody will dispute that.

I like being able to be at TNA be in a position where we can contribute, we can work with younger talent, new talent, we can still stay relevant, we can still be involved in something that feels important with what we’re doing on TNA, but then crossing over and still having merchandise and doing stuff with WWE.

Because I do love WWE. Like, I’ve said this, I said it in a post just recently, we have two homes. WWE was like our childhood home. If it wasn’t for WWE and Vince McMahon allowing myself and Jeff to do what we did as the Hardy Boyz and giving us an opportunity to have this tag team ladder match, which became a tables match, which became this TLC concept, and we became famous there with WWE, we wouldn’t be who we are.

But TNA is also our home because if it wasn’t for TNA, I wouldn’t have got to roll the dice on myself and try and do this insane concept called Broken Matt Hardy, you know, and Brother Nero and the Broken Universe, which totally rejuvenated our career and led us back to WWE when it was all said and done. So we definitely feel like we have two homes. WWE is our childhood home, and I think TNA is more of our adult home.”

In a follow-up message, Matt clarified his remark…

“Jeff & I have 2 homes – TNA & WWE

WWE is our childhood home. It’s where we grew up, where we learned to become superstar pro wrestlers, where we both succeeded & failed in life & work. Without WWE, Jeff & I aren’t looked at as the GOATs.

TNA is our adult home. TNA has allowed us to be men that bet on themselves & either sink or swim on their own. Without TNA, there’s no #BROKEN Matt, Brother Nero, Anti-Christ, Willow or Big Money Matt.

We’re thrilled our homes are partners together, making anything a possibility for House Hardy.”

As seen during the March 30th 2026 edition of WWE RAW at Madison Square Garden, Logan Paul and Austin Theory won the WWE world tag team titles from Jimmy and Jey Uso. After the match, TNA Wrestling star Matt Hardy wrote the following message via Twitter/X…

“It’s a travesty to watch the Usos get beaten by Logan Paul and Austin Theory. for the WWE Tag Team Titles on WWE RAW. I bet the WrestleMania 42 crowd would go CRAZY if The Hardy Boyz beat their ass & brought the titles back home to our home, the WWE.”

Matt also praised Cody Rhodes’ RAW segment with Stephanie McMahon by writing, “Really dug the Cody Rhodes & Stephanie McMahon promo to kick off WWE RAW! WrestleMania 42 is becoming more & more interesting by the minute..”

Matt and his brother Jeff are currently in their fourth reign as TNA World Tag Team Champions. They’re set to defend the titles on April 11th at TNA’s Rebellion pay-per-view against The System (Brian Myers & Bear Bronson).
