While speaking to TheSportster.com, Chris Jericho discussed the star power of WWE’s Attitude Era. Here is what Jericho had to say…

“When I got to WWE, there were legit, I’d say, 12 legit top-drawing main event stars. Not just guys who worked in the main event—top draws.

The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Mankind, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit. And that’s just off the top of my head. Kane. There’s nine right there off the top of my head without even really thinking too much about it. There’s probably three or four others that I could throw in there.

Big Show—there’s 10 right there. That shows you that there’s a lot of great talent in wrestling today, but main event stars, main event draws, main event, like, almost iconic characters that are still super popular today because of that timeframe—we don’t have that now.

You have a lot more eyeballs on it because of platforms and streaming, but if you look at the main event names then, they can’t be touched.

So that’s probably why that era is so critically acclaimed and so positively remembered, because of just the name value of those stars that were all there at the same time.”

During an interview with SHAK Wrestling, Chris Jericho was the question: “What do you think is the opportunity for AEW here as the perception around WWE continues to change?” Here was Jericho’s response…

“I think it’s the same as always, in that we’ve never worried about WWE ever. We’ve only worried about our own show, our own product, the quality of what we’re doing, you know, and it’s not a perceived upswing.

You can see it in the numbers, tickets sold, the ratings.I think last week, were very close to the ratings that they were right before HBO Max became a platform for us.

So, if we’re doing those same ratings, plus there’s the HBO Max, that would tell me, common sense would say we’re doing bigger ratings now than we were doing three or four years ago.

I think that’s because no matter what’s going on around us, we keep our noses to the grindstone and worry about what we’re doing and what kind of matches and quality of matches and variety. We’ve never been a WWE light. We’ve been AEW since day one, and that’s never changed. And sometimes you like it and sometimes you don’t, but we’ve never changed it.”

While speaking to Beef Vegan, AEW star Chris Jericho commented on how close he came to making a WWE return in 2026. Here is what Jericho had to say…

“I mean, you weigh all your options, but I have skin in the game with AEW. I helped create AEW, and I was never gone. I just was off TV for a while while we figured out some stuff, but basically just ended one contract and went straight to the other one.

I like Tony Khan as a boss. I like AEW as a company. I like the growth that we’ve done, and I helped start the company so I always have, like I mentioned, skin in the game.

WWE existed before I was there, and it’ll exist after I was there. And of course, AEW will exist after I was there too, but it didn’t exist before I was there. So, you know, that kind of was more of a—it just kind of was more exciting to be with the company that I helped create.”

While speaking to FoxNews.com, AEW star Chris Jericho commented on how he wants his professional wrestling career to be remembered…

“I think it’s like a great rock and roll band, you know? I mean, the Rolling Stones just put out a new album, and it’s amazing, but the Stones have been 60 years and some of the eras you like, some of the eras you hate, some of the eras you wish they would have gone away, and some of the eras you wish they would have done more, and you’re still glad that they’re here. I think when I’m done, people will be sad that I’m not around anymore.

And I think a lot of the people that you mentioned, social media wise, that don’t like me just because I’m still doing this will realize like, hey, we had something pretty cool there, we should have been watching a little bit more because all I ever do is give my best 1,000% for whatever situation I’m in to make it better, to make my opponent better, to make me better, to make the company better, to make the show better, and I’m very proud of all the work that I’ve done.

And that’s why I still do it, that’s why I still love wrestling and making documentaries involving wrestling, per se, because I think it’s such a wonderful sport that really does tie the world together, wonderful form of entertainment. I live my dream doing something that I always wanted to do and here I’m doing it almost longer than anybody else at a high level. I think that’s something to be proud of.”

During a Dark Side of the Ring Q&A in New York, Chris Jericho was asked whether he ever considered signing with TNA Wrestling. Jericho recalled using perceived interest from TNA as leverage during WWE contract negotiations, saying it helped him secure a better offer from Vince McMahon…

“We met at the Cheesecake Factory in Tampa, Florida. I was talking about going back to WWE. I’d been off for a couple of years. I think this was around 2007. At the time, Vince [McMahon] had the magic number for a salary. I won’t say what that number was, but it was the highest you could get, no matter who you were.

At that time, if you headlined and were a main eventer, you would make more money and so on, but there was a certain base number he wasn’t coming close to. I thought, ‘Well, let me see if I can arrange a meeting with Double J and have a conversation with TNA and see what happens.'”

My cousin was in town at the time, and I said, ‘Just go sit over there and comment on what you see. And here’s the email address of someone in the wrestling dirt sheet world who might be interested in what you see.’

I’m not saying I wasn’t entertaining the idea, but two days later, guess who came back with the magic number?”

While speaking to Renee Paquette, Chris Jericho reflected on the start of his 2026 AEW comeback…

“What I did was very simply take one word away and just make it Jericho. Suddenly, it’s the topic of conversation. It’s nothing other than something new by keeping it the most basic of basics. That’s now become a thing. It’s the new era of Chris Jericho—the Jericho, the self-titled album era. So, that’s kind of what I was focusing on.

Then, of course, when you get back in the ring, you never lose it, but you never know. What’s my cardio going to be like? How am I going to be moving? [Especially when you’ve got someone like Ricochet on the other side of you.] But that actually worked out great because he is so athletic and so acrobatic.

I got in there and realized I didn’t really lose a step either. So, he was the perfect first opponent to have. It was a great storyline because he’s an awesome heel. He knows how to be a heel, and that helped me kind of reimagine what a babyface Jericho was like.

So yeah, I couldn’t be happier with the first couple months of this return—just how it’s been accepted and how much fun it’s been. That’s the point, Renee. At this time, if I’m not having fun, I don’t want to do it. It has to be fun, and this has been a lot of fun all across the board.”

During a WWE live event in São Paulo on May 24th 2012, Chris Jericho challenged CM Punk for the WWE championship. At one point, Jericho grabbed a Brazilian flag from a fan, threw it to the mat, and kicked it. Jericho apologized to fans and was suspended for 30 days by WWE.

While speaking to The Late Run, CM Punk addressed the incident…

“I had machine guns pointed at me. The company went and did a show in Brazil one time. We haven’t been back. Brazil, I love you. I would like to come back. Let’s try to work on that.

My opponent that night [Jericho] rolled out of the ring and snatched a Brazilian flag from somebody. Brazil don’t play. In America, you get people who get bent out of shape, right? But there’s no law against it. People burning flags, doing whatever, right? Freedom of speech.

He rolled in the ring. I’m down looking at him going, ‘Hmmm, maybe no?’

I can’t remember exactly if he just threw it down and stepped on it, or if he maybe wiped his butt with it. Shawn Michaels did this to the Canadian flag, too. It was palpable, but still a little bit different than doing it in Brazil.

The instant this happened, all of a sudden, there’s a second referee in the ring, and I’m going, ‘Oh, what’s going on?’ One referee’s talking to him. The other referee’s talking to me, trying to relay the information. Then our head of talent relations is in the ring. This all happens lickety-split.

I’m looking around like, ‘Okay,’ and then I turn and I look, and the ring is surrounded by men in fatigues, and one has his gun pointed directly at me.

They were offended. I had my extra referee and my head of talent relations saying, ‘This match is over. This match is over. We got to wrap this up.’ Homeboy who did the thing was like, ‘Absolutely not. I refuse to do this.’ So I had to roll him up for real, stack him up, and the ref counted to three. I grabbed the flag—yay! Crowd pops.

I grab the flag, jump up on the turnbuckle. I’m showing it, I’m kissing the flag, you know. ‘Hey everybody, sorry. I love you.’

Then I got out of there, and they tried to snatch dude up, grab his passport, and we knew if he handed his passport over, he wasn’t coming home.

Under the cover of night, got him out of there, and then we continued on the tour. He went home.”

While speaking with Dan Marston, AEW star Chris Jericho commented on what young wrestlers misunderstand about getting over with the crowd…

“You have to connect with the audience. And I’m not going to throw stones at the style of wrestling nowadays because when I started, our style was the version of what’s going on today. But the peak of athleticism in 1991 was a moonsault, right?

You know, I remember the first guys to do a moonsault in Japan were myself and Lance Storm. Now, a moonsault is the opening move. But that’s fine. The athleticism grows, but the same principle for wrestling never changes.

It’s all about your personality, your character, your charisma, and connecting with the audience. You have to connect. If not, then you’re just a couple of guys out there doing high spots and not getting any reactions because there’s so much going on. No one’s paying attention because nothing is special.

There has to be a reason for what you’re doing, a reason why the match is even happening. So it’s up to all the guys and girls to figure that out for themselves. You have to find a character that’s going to connect and be a little bit unique that people are going to remember.”

While speaking with Dan Marston, Chris Jericho was asked about the biggest risk he ever took when it came to his wrestling characters. Here was Jericho’s response…

“I think it was probably when I dropped the whole Y2J persona and the countdown.

There was a time when I came back [to WWE] in 2007 where I was kind of—not going to say a diluted version of Chris Jericho—but it wasn’t the same. I had shorter hair, and times had changed. So I thought, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore. I don’t want to be a nostalgia act.’

I cut my hair and switched from long tights to trunks. I dropped the Y2J name and told the announcers, ‘Don’t ever call me Y2J ever again.’ We did a whole new video package that had none of that. And the countdown was so synonymous with Jericho. Get rid of the countdown. It’s done.

That was kind of the first time where I really took a shot because I was like, you know, it’s almost like when Kiss took off the makeup. You’re doing something very drastic here, and you want people to understand we’re doing something different.

Whether you like it or don’t like it, that’s not for us to decide, but here’s where we’re going. Here’s the path that we’re taking. Come on board if you want to.

That was a big risk, but not for long. It’s something that I had to do. That’s when I realized I can reinvent myself whenever I start feeling a little stale. People will like some of it and not like some of it, but I can’t worry about what people think. I just have to worry about what I can do to be the best personality I can be.”

While speaking to Ringer Wrestling, Chris Jericho reflected on his “Learning Tree” persona in AEW during 2024 and 2025…

“I also think that ‘The Learning Tree’ was a good era because it was really going left field and focusing on the haters of the world, which then made them hate it even more. So that might be a little bit more of a Dirty Work, Music from ‘The Elder’, or St. Anger type of vibe. But I thought that was a really cool one as well.

Whether you like it or not, I’ve given 1,000% for every single iteration of Chris Jericho. There’s never been one where I thought, ‘Oh, this one’s not going to work. Let me focus on it less.’ Everything that I’ve done, I’ve put a million percent into. Sometimes it doesn’t work as well as the others, but the intent, passion, and effort have always been there.”
