Wrestle Review: Look ma! We're Esssential too!

I'm social distancing myself away from the Velveteen Dream controversy. Or should I say Velve-TEEN? Anyway, that's enough of that. We've heard the story and the voice mail. What more do I need to say? I think I'll social distance myself away from that one for the time being.

AEW will resume live shows in May. Do you think they'll get raked over the coals the way WWE does? Me neither. They should but they won't. I guess this means Double Or Nothing next month is still on.

The Money In The Bank participants are coming together. Daniel Bryan, Aleister Black, Apollo Crews, Rey Mysterio and Corbin(ugh) have all qualified for Money In The Bank. One spot remains. I'm thinking Elias gets in there somehow. He and Corbin have been feuding lately. I especially enjoyed the Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboat spot they did when Corbin "crushed" Elias' larynx. At least that's where I would've gone. Then they go and announce Dolph vs Otis for the final spot.

The women's side is also taking shape. Asuka, Shayna, Nia, Dana and Lacey are in the match so far. Interesting they put the most reckless person on the roster(Nia in such a dangerous match. Carmella vs Mandy next week will decide the final spot. I'm picking Mandy so Sonya can screw her out of the briefcase. By the way, why wasn't Sonya involved in any of these matches? I'll save my predictions for a later column.

Cody vs Darby Allin and Dustin vs Lance Archer are the next round matches in the TNT Championship tournament. I've thought from the beginning that it'll be Cody vs Lance in the final. The two finalists will meet at Double Or Nothing on May 23. The event will still take place but not at MGM Grand, AEW says. It would be cool to see a brother vs brother rematch but alas, it's not to be. Odds are, Lance Archer will become the first AEW TNT champion through a nefarious nature. After all, he is undefeated. Wouldn't it make for a better story for Cody to end the undefeated streak AND capture the TNT Championship after a long build instead of in a short tournament? I do.

I'll end with some humor to brighten these times. Well, I thought it was funny. The Triple H 25th anniversary celebration that even brought Vince out of the catacombs. He even mentioned Bayley-granted, he brought up the awful "this is your life" segment but still. It's good to have a humorous moment, especially in these uncertain times.

I'll catch you right back here next week: same time(give or take), same place.
