Degeneration Dex: Wrestlemania 38 Saturday Review!

Dexter Stuckey — Sun, 03 Apr 2022 05:01:13 +0000

Welcome to the Degeneration Dex Wrestlemania Night 1 review! I’m going to go ahead and say this entire show was INCREDIBLE! My only gripes are that The New Day vs Sheamus & Ridge Holland match was cut, and Bianca and Becky really should have gone on after Charlotte and Ronda.

The Usos (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs

I had zero expectations for this match, but it was pretty impressive. USOs won and I think that was the best choice, mainly because I don’t like the idea of Nakamura being in the tag division.

Drew McIntyre vs Happy Corbin

I didn’t mind this match, but I couldn’t help but think that McIntyre deserves better. I will say that Madcap is very quickly growing on me.

The Miz & Logan Paul vs. The Mysterios

Another match that I didn’t care much about, but boy did it deliver! This was arguably Dom’s best match since joining the company. I was also impressed with him well Paul moved in the ring. In the end, Miz did what he does better than anyone else, and that’s stealing the spotlight from everyone else involved. Great match.

Bianca vs Becky (c)

This was my favorite match of the night. There was so much passion, story, and intensity in this match-up! This had a natural big fight feel to it and both women delivered from bell to bell. I can’t say enough about how incredible this match was from the intros to the in-ring action! Just incredible. (Bianca might be the female Undertaker 2-0 at Mania).

Seth Rollins vs Cody

This was one of my favorite storylines leading into mania and I was truly impressed with the “surprise” of Cody Rhodes. Cody was rumored to be the opponent for Rollins, but it didn’t stop the momentum of this match! The crowd was fully behind the math and the action was non-stop! Both men delivered and killed it.

Charlotte (c) vs Ronda

Ok so I’m going to be honest, I didn’t care about this match at all. I wasn’t crazy about the build-up and I just couldn’t get behind the storyline. The match itself was good, but not anything I’d want to watch again.

STONE COLD vs Kevin Owens

In 2022 we got a STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN match and I loved every single second of it!

Wrestlemania Night 1 was truly incredible and I hope we get the same energy for night 2! What did you guys think? Did they knock it out of the park or did they not move the needle for you?

Degeneration Dex: Tag Team Title Turmoil

Dexter Stuckey — Thu, 17 Mar 2022 00:37:22 +0000

Welcome to Degeneration Dex!!! It’s Wrestlemania season, the nightS of all nightS, the showcase of the immortals *Michael Cole voice* and the biggest WWE event of the year! Today, let’s talk about those WWE Women’s tag team titles currently held by Carmella and Queen Zelina.

I want to very quickly point out the fact that I absolutely hate Liv Morgan’s new theme and I want the old one back. Ok back to the Women’s Tag Team titles. In November of 2022, Carmella and Queen Zelina dethroned Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H to win the tag team titles and we haven’t seen them in a tag team feud since.

On Smackdown, Naomi and Sasha announced that they wanted a title match and it was granted. I think I can speak for everyone when I say the tag titles have been treated as an afterthought, but there was some excitement injected into the division with the Naomi/Sasha team forming.

Now, they’ve added Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley to the match and I honestly feel like this move had made a once exciting match turn into a free for all. I predict that by the end we get a random tag team turmoil type of match where the only build-up is a losing streak between Queen Zelena and Carmella.

Overall, I’m glad we’re getting so many superstars on the Wrestlemania card, but I would much rather have a well-planned battle royal over a bunch of randomly created teams that will split immediately after mania.

Thank you all for checking out this column. Curious to know what you all think of the current state of the women’s tag team titles!

Degeneration Dex: Giving Naomi her flowers

Dexter Stuckey — Sat, 12 Feb 2022 23:44:57 +0000

Welcome to Degeneration Dex!!! Ladies & Gents, it’s been an interesting week in the WWE women’s locker room! We had a returning Lita flatten Big Time Becks with a flawless Litasault! Ronda Rousey is back in action, Natalya, Xia Li, and Alyiah in a no-title feud, and a Raw talent Elimination Chamber match that really could be won by any of the announced competitors (or the mystery entry).

It’s safe to say the women’s division is picking up steam heading into Wrestlemania season! Now today, I want to pay a little focus to one specific superstar that I find a-maa-zing (see what I did there). None other than two-time Smackdown women’s champion and former Funkadactyl NAOMI!

I’ve personally been a fan of Naomi since 2014, and I still remember when she suffered an injury to her eye during a match, and not only continued the match but returned after the injury WRESTLING WITH AN EYE PATCH! I remember watching in amazement as she competed then, and the years following which include her women’s title wins, her Royal Rumble save spots, her show-stopping performances in the Money In The Bank matches, and her win in the inaugural women’s WrestleMania battle royal to name a few.

Naomi has also always been pretty vocal about the online criticism she’s faced over the years as well, even detailing the mental anguish it’s caused her. I think it’s important for us as wrestling fans to be expressive, but I also think it’s equally important to give credit where credit is due!

On this week’s edition of Smackdown Naomi came up short in her title match with Charlotte, but she won in so many other avenues! To start, she was in the opening segment furthering her feud with authority figure Sonya Deville, showing off her mic skills and getting the crowd behind her early on in the night. The main event had a big fight feel to it, and I may or may not have jumped on my couch a few times in anticipation. Naomi is such an incredible talent and watching her last night had me thinking both “she’s amazing” and “She’s been active for ten years now. How much longer will we be able to enjoy this talent?” Let’s appreciate this superstar while we still can!

Thank you guys for taking the time to read this, it’s been such a pleasure being in the ring with the NODQ team! Until next time!

Degeneration Dex: Women’s Royal Rumble Review

Dexter Stuckey — Sun, 30 Jan 2022 05:58:19 +0000

Welcome to the ‘Degeneration Dex’ column!

Alright, I just want to be very clear that I’m only writing this because I promised that I would review the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble! So with that being said let’s get it started.

I know I’m not alone when I say this was such an anticipated Royal Rumble match! We had returning hall of famers, legends of the past, and multiple current superstars who seemed to have a shot at winning and about seven unnamed competitors. This was anybody’s game and again, I was anticipating it!

We kick off with Sasha Banks in a Sailor Moon cosplay look and…the legendary MELINA complete with her paparazzi and signature split introduction! We get a stare and posedown between the two and then Melina is tossed out shortly after. Ladies and Gentlemen, I should have known at that point that this would be the worst women’s Royal Rumble match yet.

So Ronda Rousey makes a surprise return and wins the whole thing. Cool. The issue I had with the match overall is that it wasn’t fun! There were so many missed opportunities for interactions between talent who have a history together and the oddest eliminations ever (especially for the returning stars – some of those eliminations will make you question why they even bothered bringing the women back)

If I had to pick a highlight, I would say it was WWE Hall of Famer Ivory returning with her RTC (Right To Censor) gimmick. It was a quick spot but served as some much-needed comic relief.

I could get into how annoyed I was that we didn’t get a Naomi save spot (also no interaction with Cameron), how ridiculous it was that Sasha was eliminated so quickly (but then again, so were half of the competitors), how terrible it looks that our women’s tag champs didn’t bother to enter with their titles (or interact with the Bella’s), no active competitors returns (Lacey, Asuka, Bayley, Alexa)

Overall, this was a terrible match point, blank, period. Love to hear your thoughts on the match! Until next time.

Women’s Royal Rumble: Potential Winners!

Dexter Stuckey — Wed, 19 Jan 2022 13:16:51 +0000

It’s January so you know what that means…it’s time to take those Christmas trees down, oh and it’s time for the ROYAL RUMBLE!

Let’s take a little time to consider who could be the next woman to join Asuka, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Bianca Belair as a Royal Rumble winner, and potentially Wrestlemania main eventer. We’re also going to spend a little time entertaining the idea of a repeat winner.

I’m going to break down my top 5 picks of potential winners, and I’d love to hear yours as well. I do want to make it clear that I was initially 1000% against the surprise participants being announced early, BUT since (I assume some not all) of the returning superstars have been announced, they have raised the level of excitement surrounding the rumble! The Bella’s have us intrigued about a women’s tag team title match for the first time since….ever? Hall of Famer Lita has announced that she’s participating and it actually seems like she has a shot at winning, have you all seen the hilarious back and forth between Nattie and the returning Summer Rae?

Ok, let’s get started, here are my top five picks for the winner of the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble.

Bianca Belair – Simply put, Bianca needs her revenge on Big Time Becks! Not only did Bianca prematurely drop the belt to Becky at Summerslam, she ‘doudropped’ it quickly, and was cheated out of rematch wins time and time again. Bianca winning the Rumble for a second time and putting the EST in WrESTlemania isn’t unlikely or a bad idea.

Charlotte Flair – I’m not the most convinced on this pick, but outside of needing an extra body in the match, I don’t fully see a need for Charlotte to be in this otherwise. I think her winning would allow creative to do whatever they want with the RAW title picture (multi woman match, Bianca etc). Charlotte “The Opportunity” and Smackdown women’s can win and challenge a superstar (Lita, Naomi) to a match that would be a twist on what we’re traditionally use to.

Naomi – Naomi has done some creative things in the Royal Rumble match, what if she actually won it this year! Could you imagine Naomi winning the rumble and main eventing Wrestlemania as the payoff for her and Sonya’s storyline? Sonya could have Naomi enter in the number one spot, and make multiple attempts to have Naomi eliminated even entering the match herself! Naomi is the ultimate underdog in this scenario, the crowd is pretty consistently behind her, and Naomi vs Charlotte in an actual feud would be pretty am-aaa-zing (see what I did there)

Lita – Lita is one of the most popular women in the history of the business, but did you know she’s only had ONE match at Wrestlemania and she didn’t even win it! Lita announcing that she has one more run in her could mean a few things, she’s back to enhance the current roster OR she’s back to win gold and lead the current roster. I’m personally excited about either option.

A returning Alexa Bliss or Bayley – There are a few slots that are still open and I am convinced that Bayley is returning and will add Royal Rumble winner to her already stacked resume! The other return I see happening is Alexa Bliss, I’m not 100% sure what Alexa character we’ll get, but it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Alexa carrying gold, and with her being the top merchandise seller, it might not be much longer before she’s back on top starting with a Royal Rumble win.

Yeah, I cheated and gave you 6 options, but in my defense, this is the most unpredictable Rumble we’ve ever had, and I’m really excited about it!

SB: Wouldn’t it be cool if Alexa pulled a Mick Foley and entered with more than one character or is that just me?

The Women of Raw: Performance Review!

Dexter Stuckey — Tue, 18 Jan 2022 04:40:21 +0000

Welcome to Monday Night Raw where the women kick off tonight’s show! Alright, let’s get into it! Becky is out first, she says what we’re all thinking (or maybe it’s just me) “Doughdrop will never be champion.”

Don’t get me wrong, I respect the talent of Doughdrop, she’s decent in the ring, but everything about this character feels like an afterthought…even the name and how she was introduced. Before the tag match (Liv and Bianca vs Doughdrop and Becky) we get two new Women Royal Rumble entrants Bianca & Liv!

The tag match was standard. Nothing spectacular, Doughdrop gets the win by pinning Liv. If you’ve been keeping track that’s now two back-to-back wins over Liv. Looks like Livs push isn’t a top priority at this time.

Nikki A.S.H did a backstage segment, and I honestly have nothing to say outside of she turned hell and kept the same gimmick. I like Nikki, but this character isn’t doing her any favors at all.

It’s match time! Rhea Ripley vs Nikki A.S.H! Just as we’re getting ready for the bell to ring, Carmella and Queen Zelina with their paperweights also known as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles come out to taunt Rhea. This allows Nikki an opportunity to attack her from behind. Nikki got the best of Rhea again, but the match never got started.

Dana ‘24/7 Championship’ Brooke and Tamina were there.

Maryse came out to ask Beth to cancel the mixed tag match and guys, the way she controlled the crowd during this segment was masterfully done, she is for sure the female version of Miz! Beth, also incredible on the mic isn’t buying what Maryse is selling and heads into the ring to give us a preview of what’s to come at the Royal Rumble! Miz appears and attacks Edge distracting Beth which allows Maryse an opportunity to hit Beth with A BRICK hidden inside of her purse.

Lastly, we get another Alexa therapy session and I’m starting to think this leads to a return of the Goddess character. I’m not loving these therapy segments, but I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

This is my first column and I hope you guys enjoyed it! Looking forward to connecting with guys more and providing more reviews!

On a side note Vince McMahon at 76 is chilling backstage every week, but at 77 years old a “pregnant” Mae Young was taking power bombs through tables! I’m just saying.
