Apparently, it was Vince McMahon's idea for announcers Mike Adamle and Tazz to walk off ECW during the 4/29 episode on Sci Fi. McMahon was in the gorilla position on the headsets, as he usually is, and acted like he was furious about something, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He told both announcers to come to the back. Vince told Adamle first, followed by Tazz.
It is believed that McMahon was selling angle that he didn't let anyone in on. The walking off angle wasn't discussed at the production meeting, and wasn't on the script.
