NoDQ.com > UFC > Tito Ortiz speaks on fighting Forrest Griffin
Posted by Randy Gordon on 10/28/2009 at 01:00 PM

Thanks to FightLine.com for the following:

With the Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin UFC 106 bout being promoted to the night’s main event due to Brock Lesnar’s illness, the UFC really needs Ortiz to be the Ortiz of old to help make the event. Just having Lesnar’s name on UFC 106 made it a quick sell for MMA fans and now the UFC is relying on Ortiz, who hasn’t won a fight since October of 2006 against Ken Shamrock.

“This is my comeback fight. I’m not going to lie, it’s been a challenge for me. Not pain. I have no [back] pain, but I’m dealing with the fatigue from not fighting so long,” Ortiz told The Los Angeles Times.

Ortiz has had numerous injuries over the years, specifically with his back and knee, that have made him look sluggish in the Octagon.

“Coming back is hard mentally and physically. So even though I won’t be going anywhere — I have five fights left on my contract — it’s kind of do or die for both of us,” a focused Ortiz said.

Known for speaking his mind, Ortiz spoke about his opponent at UFC 106 and how MMA fans now feel about him after the actions he took following his embarrassing UFC 101 loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

“A lot of fans hate Forrest now after the Silva fight, but he usually brings it, and I always come to fight,” the Huntington Beach Bad Boy proclaimed.

If Ortiz can somehow find a way to get another win over the former light heavyweight champion, there’s no telling what could happen in the UFC’s continually stacked 205lb. division.

No matter what anybody says, Ortiz sells tickets, which means the UFC would have no problem in putting him against the top fighters if he earns it.
