Report by Dave Meltzer

Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin opens the show.

Irvin knocked him down with a right superman punch and after a punch on the ground, Alexander went limp. Fans are booing because Alexander is signaling like he can continue. It was about 6 seconds.

It was announced as 8 seconds, tying the all-time UFC record. Alexander said it was stopped early.

Nate Diaz vs. Kurt Pellegrino is next. This is probably going to be a good match because Pellegrino is a very good wrestler who has submissions.

Pellegrino dominated most of the round, taking Diaz down and beating on him. He had one flurry where it came close to being stopped and Diaz ended up bleeding from the right eye and also from the ear. Diaz got off the ground by the end of the round. Could be 10-8 for Pellegrino, but Diaz did enough in escaping problems at the end that I'd go 10-9.

Pellegrino took him down again, but this time Diaz was doing more from the bottom. Pellegrino slammed him in almost a spinebuster style but Diaz clamped on a triangle, flipped off Pellegrino, flexed his biceps while holding the triangle and Pellegrino had to tap. Good technical match.

Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch is up next.

Hamill scored the takedown but did nothing with it. Dull early until a stand-up was ordered. Boetsch got the better of the stand-up with punches and knees, but Hamill hung in. Hamill's lip is busted from a knee. Boetsch 10-9.

Boetsch came out strong but ran out of gas and went for a takedown. That was a bad idea as Hamill got on top and fired down with punch after punch until it was stopped early in the round.

Karo Pariyan vs. Thiago Alves is next.

Mostly standing. Parisyan got one takedown. Alves did some low kicks and both connected with shots. I'd give Parisyan a slight edge 10-9 in round one.

Alves dropped him with a knee and finished him off within seconds in round two. Parisyan is furious about the stoppage being early. I thought Steve Mazzagatti stopped it early. The knee dropped him but of the four punches on the ground, Parisyan was by no means out, just recovering.

They are going to show Anthony Johnson vs. Tommy Speer next as we've got well over an hour of TV time and just the main event left.

Johnson looked great in his stand-up, connecting with open punches, some kicks and his shots were times perfectly. He had Speer on the ropes from the start, and knocked him out with a right cross in 51 seconds.

Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard is being shown next.

First round saw the two wrestlers mostly box. Maynard's stand-up has improved and he seemed to get the slight edge. Edgar is cut under the right eye and got two takedowns to win the round.

Another tight round. Edgar was getting the better of the stand-up most of the round. Maynard got a takedown early and another one late. Edgar got a takedown in the middle. Very hard round to call but maybe Edgar slightly.

Maynard outwrestled him the entire round. There was a brief stand-up period where Edgar scored better, but he was taken down again and slammed three times in the round. I have Maynard winning the round and taking the decision 29-28. Good competitive fight for hardcore fans but I think the average viewer would just see it as a so-so fight. All three judges had it 30-27. Maynard said he's not even close to the top at 155 even though Edgar was a title contender.

Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon

Super first round going back-and-forth. Florian used elbows to but Lauzon up but to the back of the head which was illegal. Only a warning. Lauzon got some good takedowns and twice had Florian in heel hooks. Then at the end of the round, Florian was on top and pounding on him when time ran out. Slight edge to Lauzon but this could go either way.

Second round Florian got the mount and was pounding on him. Florian pounded him the entire round. Lauzon couldn't get Florian off him but he was still blocking most of the blows. It's just that there were so many and Lauzon wasn't moving so Herb Dean stopped the fight midway through round two. Best fight of the night.
