Date: 11/14/05 from Minneapolis, MN.

The Big News: The WWE roster paid tribute to a fallen friend and comrade.

Title Changes/Turns: None.

Match Results: Big Show & Kane b MNM; Kurt Angle b Shelton Benjamin; Rey
Mysterio b Shawn Michaels; Melina won Battle Royal; Eugene Dinsmore b Simon
Dean; Ric Flair b William Regal; John Cena b Randy Orton-DQ.

Show Analysis:

The entire roster was on the stage to start the show, with a low rider in
the corner. There were chants of “Eddie,” and really long faces abound.
Vince McMahon said that Eddie passed away in the prime of his life and his
career, and that they would celebrate his life. Vince continued that Eddie
had a passion for the business and loved to perform. They gave him a ten
bell salute. They aired a video package that was really hard to watch. Vince
said, “Viva la raza,” and there were “thank you, Eddie” chants. Just about
everyone the camera showed was crying.

John Cena said that Eddie was a great man. Cena noted Eddie’s passion, and
said that Eddie helped Cena and was a father figure to him. He added that
his heart goes out to Guerrero’s family and closest friends. Cena said Eddie
was a man of faith and that he is in a better place, but selfishly he misses
him.

They showed Eddie spraying sewage on Big Show. Big Show and Kane beat MNM.
Kane dominated early with a side slam on Nitro. He went to the top but
Mercury pushed him off. Nitro hit Kane with a title belt on the outside. MNM
controlled Kane briefly, but he came back with a double suplex and made the
tag to Show. Show hit a double avalanche into the corner and a double
clothesline. Melina tried to distract him, so he kissed her. Mercury tried
to attack him with a belt but the referee stopped him. Kane hit a
clothesline off the top and Kane and Show hit a double choke slam on Nitro
for the pin.

Lillian Garcia said that she bonded with Eddie as fellow Latino/as. She said
he was a great guy. She was with Eddie’s group in Iraq, and she was struck
by how much he meant to the troops and how humble he was. She concluded in
Spanish that she loves Eddie very much and hopes God is with him.

They showed Eddie selling off Kurt Angle’s stuff. Kurt Angle beat Shelton
Benjamin. Benjamin and Angle brawled early. Angle hit an overhead belly to
belly, and followed up with a European uppercut, stomps, and a back breaker.
He continued to beat down Benjamin until Benjamin went for a neck breaker.
Angle escaped but Benjamin hit a DDT. He used a flying forearm, clothesline,
and Samoan drop. Angle went for the ankle lock but Benjamin escaped.
Benjamin hit a flying forearm, a clothesline and a Samoan drop. Angle went
for the ankle lock but Benjamin escaped. He hit a spinning heel kick for a
near fall.

Benjamin used his clothesline off the top, but he missed the Stinger Splash.
Angle turned the tide with two rolling Germans, but Benjamin rolled through
for a pinning attempt on the third. Angle hit the Angle slam, but Benjamin
kicked out. Angle went up for the moonsault, but he got caught by Benjamin.
Benjamin hit an impressive German suplex where Angle flipped in the air and
took a face first bump. Angle still kicked out. Angle played possum for a
moment and then hooked in the ankle lock for the submission.

Shawn Michaels said his memories of Eddie don’t have anything to do with the
ring. He said they discussed religion together, and one day they can wrestle
in heaven. He said Eddie brought everyone in the locker room together in
prayer to Jesus Christ. I wonder what Dean Malenko has to say about that.
Shawn said he will see Eddie again some day. The unemotional, proselytizing
tone struck me as inappropriate, but everyone deals with pain in different
ways and I don’t question his sincerity. They aired a brief package on the
lie, cheat, steal vignettes.

Chavo Guerrero said that while Eddie was technically his uncle, they were
like brothers. Growing up a Guerrero was difficult because they had such
shoes to fill. Their first matches were together at the intermission of
wrestling events at the ages of 4 and 6, and they had to stop because people
weren’t going to spend money at concessions. They wanted to be tag champions
together, and they accomplished that in WWE. Chavo said they worked really
well as a team. He called Eddie his brother, and said he loves Eddie with
all his heart. Eddie was an inspiration, he always came to Eddie for help,
Eddie will be missed, and he will see Eddie again.

Rey Mysterio beat Shawn Michaels. They shook hands before and after the
match, and hugged afterwards as well. They used chain wrestling early.
Shawn’s size advantage over Rey was striking, since Shawn for most of his
career was viewed as a small guy and he towered over Rey. That really goes
to show what a revolution Rey was in 1996. Rey went for the 619 early but
Michaels escaped. Rey caught him with a pescado. Michaels applied a sleeper
and worked on Rey’s back. Rey came back with a spinning head scissors and
springboard crossbody. He went after Shawn’s legs, and did Eddie’s dance. He
hit a drop kick to the leg and then the fact.

Michaels came back with the flying forearm, but Rey caught him with a
bulldog when he went for the inverted atomic drop. Rey went for 619
unsuccessfully, and Michaels hit a clothesline. Michaels hit the elbow off
the top and went for sweet chin music, but missed. Rey whipped Michaels into
the ropes with a huracanrana and hit the 619 and a springboard leg drop for
the pin. Like Benjamin-Angle, this was a very good match. Benjamin-Angle was
a better overall match in my book, but this one had the perfect finish.

Batista broke down immediately speaking about Eddie. He said the news of his
death didn’t seem real. He said he was really close to Eddie, and Eddie
helped him out in some tough spots. Eddie was always there to say something
inspirational or quote a biblical passage for him. He added that Eddie was
very funny. He noted Eddie seemed in so much pain, and when he went through
the curtain it would all go away. He said the fans don’t realize how he
struggled behind the scenes physically, but kept it together for them.

Melina won a diva battle royal. They all wore Eddie Guerrero t-shirts.
Jillian Hill eliminated Mickie James, but Maria then sent out Jillian.
Candice and Victoria eliminated Ashley. Candice knocked out Christy with a
punch. Trish used a spinning head scissors to send Candice to the outside.
Trish and Victoria were fighting, but Maria kicked out Victoria from behind.
Maria had been avoiding action throughout the match, but she got cocky at
that point and picked a fight with Trish and Melina. She was quickly
eliminated. Finally, Melina knocked out Trish as Trish went for the
Stratusfaction. Melina indicated she wants the women’s title after the
match.

Rey Mysterio called Eddie Guerrero a brother, and said he knows Eddie is
listening. Rey has a lot of good memories of Eddie and his family. He said
that their families bonded. He is going to miss Eddie, and already does. He
said he wishes it was all a dream. He said he loves Eddie a lot, and that he
was a big inspiration. He took off his mask and buried his head in his
hands. They then showed footage of Eddie and Chris Benoit hugging at
WrestleMania XX.

Eugene beat Simon Dean. They had a pushup contest at the beginning of the
match. Dean tried to drop an elbow on Eugene at that point, but Eugene got
out of the way and used JYD style head butts. He bit Dean. Dean got a bit of
offense in, but Eugene hulked up after having his head thrown into the
buckle. He used the airplane spin and hit the rock bottom for the pin. He
rode the Dean Machine to the back.

Chris Benoit’s thoughts were the hardest to get through. He said that Eddie
was his best friend, and there are probably a lot of people who feel that he
way. He labeled Eddie a beautiful, kind-hearted person. He has known Eddie
for fifteen years, and spent much of those with him. Eddie led by example,
and was one friend he could pore his heart out to. He said he loves Eddie,
and his thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He knows Eddie is in a
better place looking down, but he loves and misses him. He broke down, and
said Eddie made such a great impression on his life. He thanked Eddie for
everything and said he loved him. They showed Eddie beating Brock Lesnar for
the WWE Title.

HHH said that Eddie was one of the best. He said that Eddie was technically
incredible, and that he could make you laugh, cry, get angry, or go through
any emotion. He called Eddie an inspiration. He noted Eddie had demons and
was searching, but that he overcame it all. He succeeded where so many
others would have failed. Hunter said he is going to miss him. He talked
about how much Eddie’s wife and kids meant to him. He said somewhere Eddie
is watching and is proud, and that he would have wanted the show to go on.

Ric Flair beat William Regal. They brawled early with Regal using his great
European uppercuts. Flair came back with chops and punches. Regal unlaced
Flair’s boot to get the advantage. Regal hit another European uppercut, and
we got the Flair flop. Regal whipped Flair into the barricade on the
outside. Flair came back with a chop block and applied the figure four for
the tap. I thought they were going to tell the story of the two cheating to
win, but it didn’t really go that way.

Stephanie McMahon said she first met Eddie when he was looking to jump from
WCW to the WWF. She didn’t know what to expect, and found him humble and
sweet. She got to work with Eddie behind the camera. He was amazing and
could hit a range of emotions. He loved the audience. She talked to him on
Friday, where he said he would be WWE champion again. He loved his family
and especially his wife, and he will always be a champion. She said everyone
will miss him. They showed footage of Eddie “accidentally” pinning Chyna to
win the Intercontinental Title.

John Cena beat Randy Orton via disqualification. Orton dominated early with
a head lock, neck breaker and drop kick. Cena came back with a flying
shoulder tackle and five knuckle shuffle. He had Orton up for the FU, but
Bob Orton interfered. Cena fought them off and hit the FU on Orton. He laid
down an Eddie t-shirt in the middle of the ring, put the title on it, and
left.

Final Thoughts:

Eddie Guerrero won’t soon be forgotten. It would be nice if on Smackdown
they featured some highlights from the first two thirds of his career,
because there were a lot of great moments WWE owns the rights to.
