Wrestle Review: Around The Wrestling World
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 02/13/2021 at 12:24 PM

NXT Vengeance Day is Sunday. It's headlined by Finn Balor defending the NXT Championship against Pete Dunne. I think Fin retains in an incredible match. I'm glad they rediscovered his niche in NXT instead of continuing to drown him on Raw.

Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart face Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai in the Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals. Ember and Shotzi should win but Dakota. I say this because a shot at the women's tag titles is at stake. They're not going to do heel vs heel. Vince never has liked doing that. "But Triple H is in charge of NXT", you say. Well, we'll see...

Johnny Gargano will likely retain the North American title against Kushida.

Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm will challenge Io Shirai for the NXT women's championship. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Storm came away the champion here.

I watched AEW on the Hopper this week, as I usually do, and was pretty entertained. That's the case more often than not with AEW. The whole deal with Sammy Guevara quitting Inner Circle and "leaving" AEW to do some thinking has me wondering if ths is storyline or he's taking a hiatus because he's in trouble again. We all remember his comments on Sasha Banks and ensuing AEW suspension. Hopefully his leaving Wednesday was just part of a storyline. I hope this is just storyline. As it stands, Sammy turned face and having to take off now would kill momentum.

I'm glad AEW has stopped saying the term "homegrown talent". We know that "AEW original" as they'd say, MJF, was a Goldberg security guard in WWE. I saw a pic earlier this week that "homegrown AEW" guy Ricky Starks was also once in WWE. As were quite a few others that they pass off as AEW originals. I mean, everybody has to start somewhere-I get that. I didn't just start out writing at the places where I'm writing, just as nobody is truly a "homegrown" talent as it pertains to a specific company. Rant over.
