This is my comeback column! I got really lax last year, but I’m back.
So we are just a week away from the start of WrestleMania season. Last year, it felt to many that ‘Mania 36 was over before it started. It was very hard to sit through a match at the PC without fans and cheers. My curse.
Are they gonna get away with having fans – below capacity – at a 2 night WrestleMania in Tampa? Why? There isn’t much they get away with.
Oh, but AEW, everything they do is golden. They get a pass for doing exactly what WWE gets slammed for doing each and every time. I’m talking about old-timer legend Sting in a match.
They slam it, but the ratings don’t exactly tank when old legends show up, now do they?
The haters even used Luke Harper’s passing to bash WWE. Mick Foley talks about his battle with COVID-19, but he’s also a liberal so let’s post something negative.
Don’t think I haven’t been pissed at WWE. How about them throwing away one of 2020’s hottest angles? Otis gets screwed by both The Miz and Tucker and can’t even dish out justice. Him and Mandy Rose aren’t a thing anymore so it seems. Breaking up The IIconics, burning The Fiend, and they even make Asuka look plain stupid. Ric Flair and Lacey Evans? Raw’s ratings hit new lows and Vince’s response is to keep booking it through the toilet.
Has AEW done wrong? I don’t watch Dynamite so I can’t comment. If it has, their fans just won’t bring it up, or they just won’t comment.
It is what it is.
With that said, one of the thoughts going on with me is the current state of the world. This pandemic ain’t gonna last forever. What will the wrestling world look like when they can have the big crowds again?
They can’t simply carry on like they did before. Having gotten a taste of life without excessive touring, no one’s going to want to go back to that tired old grind.
What about those Ringsider packages? The collectible seats they have at Raw and SD shouldn’t come back. They’re insanely expensive for the weekly shows, but not for PPV events. At least the big 4 should continue to have them. The most expensive ticket prices should be lowered too.
I doubt they’ll have too much trouble selling out future WrestleMania’s.
When it’s all said and done, people are gonna have their own beliefs and opinions. For four years fans believed Roman Reigns was a blight on the wrestling world. They’re not saying that now, are they? To those who endlessly bashed and criticized him, I say this.
