Wrestle Review: My Wish
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 01/02/2021 at 10:40 AM

It's the weekend. You know what that means.

Christmas is over but wishing isn't. I hope 2021 is better than 2020. I hope and wish many things. Here is my wrestling wishlist for 2021.

My wish for Keith Lee is that he becomes the next big thing on Monday nights. Will he win the Royal Rumble? Will he eventually join The Hurt Business? I expect Lee to be in the WWE Championship picture by WrestleMania. He does have a championship match against Drew McIntyre Monday so he's already in it. Maybe he loses Monday, wins the Rumble(or gets the shot somehow at Mania) and becomes champion.

Over on Smackdown, my wish for the Riot Squad is that they have at least one run with the women's tag team championships. While I'm on Smackdown, last night Sonya Deville made her return. She walked the hall and people said "hey". Corey was like "that's Sonya Deville"! I thought maybe she'd head to the ring or something. Instead they just dropped it. Maybe she'll do something next week. Knowing them, they'll drop her until they "have something for her".

Impact had their year in review/best of shows the final two weeks of 2020. I thought choosing Deonna Purazzo as wrestler of the year was a great move! Who else in that company had a better 2020? Deonna has been a Godsend for that company. They needed a woman to take the Tessa Blanchard stink off them. She's done that and more. Now the question is: will they make Deonna Impact World Champion in 2020? Time will tell.

It's interesting to watch the North's drama on Impact knowing that Ethan Page is probably headed to purgatory, I mean WWE. His Impact contract is coming up, right? Perhaps Josh Alexander will be a breakout singles star for Impact in 2021? I know I'd love to see it! They could Kurt Angle him up. Or Shelton Benjamin pre-Hurt Business. You know what I'm talking about.

In 2021, I see Ricky Starks, Will Hobbs and Darby Allin having a big 2021. A TNT title run for all or some of those guys? Maybe a World Title run? Time will tell.

I really enjoyed the Brodie Lee tribute this past Wednesday. I will not do company vs company as some have done. This is not about that. This is about celebrating the life of a man who gave a piece of his life to entertain us fans.

My wish for 2021 is that crowds are able to return. Not just at wrestling events. I'd love to see concert up and going again. Safely, of course. Wherever we are in the days and months ahead, I hope everyone has a good 2021. Stay safe. Watch wrestling and/or whatever makes you happy. We only get one trip around the sun. Make it count!
