Wrestle Review: A Bold New World
Submitted by Andy Sullivan on 12/05/2020 at 12:08 PM

Jon Moxley losing the AEW Championship to Kenny Omega after holding it so long actually wasn't the biggest story to come out of AEW's Winter Is Coming Wednesday. Let's unpack all this.

About an hour into the show, when Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes were getting waxed by Team Taz, the lights went out and when they came back up, Sting appeared! After the shock of Sting's return sunk in, there was plenty of age talk. "Well maybe he's just going to mentor Darby Allin. AEW won't be like WWE and have an old guy wrestle". Never mind that Jericho is approaching 50. By the way, Sting is 60 and has a win-loss record on AEW's website. That indicates that he, indeed, will be wrestling. I'm not going to lie when I say I'll be holding my breath each time I see him wrestle. Remember that Seth Rollins "ended Sting's career" in their match.

Don Calis showing up Wednesday and helping Kenny win the AEW Championship was big. Sting's return was big. What was really big, though, was the announcement that Kenny will be on Impact Tuesday night. This screams AEW-Impact partnership. Imagining what matches we could see from this is absolutely crazy! I've read that Impact tag champions the Good Brothers will compete in AEW. Sami Callahan has thrown barbs on Twitter to Jon Moxley. Same with FTR taking shots at The North. The thought of an AEW-Impact super-card event is insane! I've heard the partnership might not give us the matches that we hope. I suppose we'll just wait and see. One thing is for sure, Impact Wrestling this coming Tuesday is a can't miss show!

Moving to WWE before I get to Takeover Sunday night, was that the Forgotten Sons that appeared on Smackdown as Baron Corbin's backup? Also, how long has this King Corbin gimmick been ongoing? I looked it up online and was informed that he won the tournament in 2019. So, he's been riding with this King Corbin gimmick 2 years next month. Anyway, onto Takeover tomorrow night!

I like how NXT does the 5 match card. More time is given to tell the stories. Let's dive in, shall we?

Tommaso Ciampa vs Timothy Thatcher should be incredibly finisher. If their intent is to push Thatcher, he needs to win this match.

Dexter Lumis will destroy Cameron Grimes in a strap match.

Leon Ruff defends the North American Championship in a triple threat against Johnny Gargano and Damien Priest. Obviously Leon is losing the title but to whom? I'm choosing Johnny Gargano here.

Team Shotzi vs Team Candice is one of the headline matches tomorrow night. Shotiz Blackheart, Ember Moon, Io(who I'm betting drops the Shirai eventually because, WWE)Rhea Ripley and Shotzi Blackheart battle Candice, Toni Storm, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez. Does someone turn on their team like Dakota did last year? I think team Candice wins.

The men's War Games is the Undisputed Era vs For The Brand-Pat Macafee's crew of Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. If they intend for this to continue, Pat's team needs to win. UE seems to be falling on jard times lately. The hardest of times would be if they get called up to Raw or Smackdown.

There you have it: my thoughts on the week in wrestling and my Takeover predictions. I hope you all enjoy this weekend. I'll leave with this: if you're looking for a new podcast, check out my Blendertainment podcast. I try to do at least one a week. I appreciate my readers and I'll be back next week!
